they are there so that when someone in the back wants to move the seat up to get up, they just have to push/pull it to move the seat's position. If your doesnt move the seat at all, then it is broken. No clue how to fix it.

I have owned 2 camaros, both with these and I have never had to touch this thing to let people out of the back seat. The seats go forward without pushing anything. Its also like this in my friends 92 camaro. So should I assume all 3 are broke and allow the seat to move forward without pushing the button?

This problem is due to the pin that locks the seat not being long enough to lock the seat down.
I do not think any recalls were issued on this but alot of 91's and 92's have this problem. I even had the dealership run my VIN number for any recalls and none came up.
There is pros and cons to this. The pro being it is easier to get in and out of the back but the con being if you were in an front end accident, the seat would go forward and not hold you back as compared to one with a pin that is long enough.
Hope this helps!!!

the reason I thought it was to fix the position of the seat back is because when I pull up on mine it will hold the seatback in a more upright position but only until i put weight on the seat.Anyway Im sure they should lock in a accident, but if the seatbelt locks you wouldnt move forward anyway, right?I havnt noticed this button in the owners manuals or service books.

The *** is only useful when the when the car is parked on an incline of about 20 degrees. The seat will lock in position and then the *** is needed to move the seat. In a collision, the seatbelt will lock and hold you in place, so the movement of the seat really doesn't matter too much.

Thats the perfect reason to get 4th gen seats... the ones in my 4th gen work flawlessly.
and since im taking the back seat out i dont have to worry about people who dont know how to use the damn thing
but i dont want the seat goin foward with me when i slam on the brakes...

Like posted above, you don't need to use the **** unless you are on a steep incline. That is the way they were designed to work. The seat will lock into position on a downhill grade if it is not broke. I personally like being able to tilt the seat forward without using a **** everytime I need to get into the back (unlike some other make cars I've owned) and am glad that they designed it that way. BTW, I purchased my car new in case that matters to any of you.
4thgen Camaro seats suck. They are hard and uncomfortable on a long trip, and you slide around on them a lot more. This isn't just my opinion, but also the opinion of almost every one of my friends who have moved on from a thirdgen to a 4thgen. Other than the fact that you can get a decent condition used seat at a good price, I really can't see why anyone would want to do the swap. Also the tall back bucket makes your thirdgen look like it has a low end interior imho. Trans Am seats are another story though...
