try nosaints coolzone.

try mounting the switches in the ashtray section or by the top of console. Use the search function to find out more.

doesnt it need to be a stick console so the boot goes over the shifter.

and this may be ugly but couldnt you mount the window switches on the sides of the console, more towards the seats. or even in the box. kinda hidden.

I was thinking the same thing RARE-ROC-Z. My thought was to get a plate from a 'bird that didnt have power windows. That way, maybe I can install cup holders and place my power window switchs on the console arm rest or get a smaller set of switchs to put into the arm rest. I also have another idea for a consolhttp://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1698799&shownewphotos=truee:

Sure I don't see why not. I just finished mine today--looks sharp. Don't know how to post pics tho. Only problem I'm having is trying to figure out where to mount the pwr mirror switch. I mounted the window switches in the ashtray--but I'm not too happy w/that. I was going to cut a square in each side of the console and mount the pwr mirror switch in the ashtray, but it was too hard to do w/o a dremal. mirror switch fit perfectly!

ok i finally figured it out.

make a plate that fits inside the ashtray, place the switches in there, that way they are hidden and all you have to do is flip the cover to roll up and down your switches.

hope someone didnt say that earlier.

and i want to see some pics. i am intersted in this now.

Sorry, the red spot is where I think they would go best, or you could put your power windows switchs thier.

Ok, two things. First, I'm sorry if I got the address wrong. I got the address from my favorites and copied it. Besides, nosaints car is pretty bad-*** . Love the spoiler.

Second, yeah I'm interested in the console. Is it a manual or automatic? How much? Let me know. My email is loz46@hotmail.com

Hey Pookey that would be a good idea--I'm thinking more where those dials are! Only bad thing about that tho is running all those wires-plus extending them! But that's a good idea!

Does anyone have any pics of an auto plate install? Only thing i don't like about the stick plate is it doesn't have the indicator on it--to show you what gear you're in.

I have heard that the auto plate does not clear the shifter stuff. As for the gear indicator, never needed it. U just now where drive is by the position, (comes naturally!) and I have never had to think about it.

My car for some reason slips into reverse--the lock out doesn't work, plus i like the indicator when it lights up . wonder where a good spot would be to put that light in?
I heard the auto plate needs some type of small bracket or spacer to work--because of the angle of it. I saw a pic somewhere but I don't remember where. Also i didn't have to cut that piece off that goes under the radio pod--slipped right under there--although now my radio plate doesn't want to stay on --think that's why?!?

Window switches and mirror controls

Yes it does need to be a manual shift plate. I have yet to see or hear of anyone making it work with an auto plate. It will not clear the shifter and linkage.

OK! I like that!! What year is that console from? Mine is from a 93-94. so it looks like you gutted the entire ashtray and used that plate. Is it a piece of plastic? Also how did you anchor it--so it stays down? i haven't figured out how to make it stay down yet.
Looks sharp!!

It's a 97+ firebird console. They changed the style in 97. Also I believe that the Camaro model is black rather than charcoal.

It's actually a piece of a broken ground effect. I didn't have a good thick plastic piece lying around, so I cut a piece off of that since it was unrepairable for the car anyway.

Made a version out of 1/8" wood to get the fitting right and then transfered that to the plastic. Used a dremel to cut everything to size, and plastic welded it into place. (Basically a 2 part plastic epoxy that fuses the two pieces together)

I don't believe that you can fit the mirror controlls along with both window switches in the 93-96 version, but the window switches alone will fit nicely.

You CAN put in a 4th gen automatic console into a 3rd gen automatic camaro, the only problem is you may need to change the dash area too. Here is a picture of a complete 3rd gen to 4th gen interior conversion. It's pretty cool. I dont know if it will work without the drastic changes but it gives you a great place for the switches and I am changing my 88 SC to this look this spring.

It's not that automatic consoles won't fit, it's just that you need to modify the shifter plate, because the fourth gen console sits lower than the third gen. So when you shift, the plate hits the console. There is a picture of an auto console in a third gen, it was a stereo competition car, but they never said how they made it fit. So, it is possible, but you really need to modify it.

Every swap I've seen has used a 6 speed console. Are the 4th gen V6 5sp consoles the same? I think I could find one of them, parted out 4th gen Zs in my area are hard to come by.

Yes ... the only problem with the auto console is that the ashtray (in the front on an auto .. at least the pre-97 like I have) hits the shifter cable. Now, I also have a 4th gen shifter, but it isn't a direct bolt in. If one was adventurous enough to fabricate a bracket to mount the later shifter in the proper place, that would work fine. Also, if you could find an aftermarket shifter with an upright bar small enough to fit through the opening in the indicator slide, that would work if mounted in the correct place. It COULD be done ... a lot of work, but yes ... it would work. Also, if you were to remove the ashtray (the lower part is molded into the console) by cutting it off, like to just mount a plate or something there for ... SOMETHING ... fan switch?? ... lock up switch?? ... then, the top plate would fit on over the shifter cable. I'll hold off on installing the console until I come up with a manual top plate ... making a plate for the window switches is enough of a PITA for me ...

Jstcrzyengh: how much did you pay for the dash and center consoles as shown in the picture? was it all direct bolt-in? and what year did you get it ffrom? it looks awesome!!
