first car! 1982 camaro rebuild

well this might be a slow slow process beings i don't have a garage and the car has a lot of rust.
heres the history as far as i know. my step-dad bought the car in 2000 or so and it sat in the yard until 2004 or so when he finally decided to build it. It had no motor in it but was an original a 4cy 4 speed car. we put in a 355 small block with roller rockers and a 490 cam and a few other things i don't really remember the engine builder said it was 425 horse or so. he build stock car motors for our local speedway. then threw in some 3;73s and called it good the car was pretty rough back then but we through some bondo in the quarter panels and called it good. it was supposed to be my first car but mom said no! lol. so he sold it to a friend in 05. then the carb backfired and caught the car on fire so we ended up fixing all that again. after a while my brother owned it and drove it for a while and sold it to his boss. finaly in 2007 i bought it back for 1100 bucks. i was 17 and spent a lot of time working on it since it had been beaten hard from the previous owners. i drove it for a couple years and the motor finaly let go. i had it rebuilt and after that it was junk so its been sitting for about 4 years in a lean too. since i need motivation to build it and i want to so sum thing with it i will use this thread to show my progress. thanks for looking and please offer any opinion.

heres what it looked like when i got it back in 2007. i put a weiand high rise intake on it a few months after having it and it killed the torque. i also had an msd set up and put on the k&n filter and a hows aluminum radiator because it ran so hot in the summer

all that street racing kinda killed it around 2009 and had a friend redo it. i had an lt1 camaro as a daily so i didnt ever drive it then anyways

for an 82 the interior was pretty nice then. it had some funky gages ive never saw before idk if there were many cars that came out with them or not

and under the car we painted up but didnt fix the rust or anything.
and heres how it looks now with the primer. i let the guy who fixed the motor prime the car to start body work and after i did it i really thought wow im a dumbass but hey i was 18 lol.

that my into for now. tomorrow im gunna throw a battery in it and fire it up for the first time in a year and hopfuly we can get this projuect underway...btw anyone ever replaced the rear frame rails on these things mine are looking kinda rusty...

Re: first car! 1982 camaro rebuild

i been toying around ideas all day on what i want to do with the car and what direction i want to go. it needs so much body work right now i should probably throw it away but it was my first car and my stepdad past away three two years ago and i want to kind of make this in memory of him
i am going to leave it the sport coupe look for sure. and i am probably just going to make it a bad *** street car i can take to the strip and drive everyday if i want to just because there are no tracks around here to drive it
for a motor im going with an ls of some kind for sure. i tossed around a 5.3 even. itll still be carbed just because its cheaper. and for the paint i have no idea still tossing around ideas bt by the looks of it the whole car will need tore apart and blasted from the inside out.

Re: first car! 1982 camaro rebuild

yep its had the sag in it forever. these things are unbreakable. i could drop it in third gear at 65 and blow the back tires on the interstate. i plan on keeping it in there with this build. i love he look on peoples faces when i tell them its a 4speed lol.

i went and saw it in storage yesterday i forgot my keys so i couldnt start it but im not worried about it it fires up every time. i think the valves are bad from running open headers so long. it dont matter anyways because im gunna pull this motor and do a carbed ls swap.

i snapped a few pics of what i have to work with

Watch what you stick on your rear end.

You might catch something.

haha thats funny .
@brandonpyles just be careful do not try to launch the car on slicks with the sag with over 375hp, you will strip the input shaft on it. The thing that people overlook with these cars is that the Saginaw is way stronger than the T5 and WC T5, but still cannot hold to much power. Anyways good luck with the build.

I think he is referring to the trap... There really is not much you can do about it other than stay out of first with it being the 3.50 low.
