Replacing Signal/Wiper Control Arm

Replacing Signal/Wiper Control Arm
When I bought my car, it was a pain in the butt to turn the left turn signal on. Something was wrong, but I didn't care because I just had to apply a little more pressure. Well, I guess I pressed too hard and the damn arm broke, right where the arm twists to change the wiper speeds. Now the arm hangs there and it's really hard to turn on the wipers - a real pain when a sudden shower shows up. I want to know if anyone has had this problem or if they know how to fix it. The original problem was located where the arm went into the steering column. Any help would be great - thanks!

To replace my arm on my Iroc, I just pulled outward on the whole arm and it just popped out. I had to twist just a little but it came right out no problem. Only problem after that was trying to figure out how to run the cruise-control wires back down into the column? I figured since I don't have cruise anymore, I will just replace the old one with one from a car without cruise and it worked out to be alright. Just make sure if you have delay wipers, that you replace the old stalk with one from a car with delay wipers or it will not function correctly, even though it will fit right, the wipers won't work right. Hope this helps some! If you have any more questions just mail me at cacroxton@earthlink.net .

Also autozone has replacement levers for $50 with cruise, not sure if they have the delay feature though. My lever is broken so that the wiper fluid won't work, so what I did is take off the arm, then take out the little plastic piece with a tab that actually engages the fluid switch inside the column, and carefully drill a small hole and put a screw into the top of that plastic piece. I put it all back together and now for fluid I can just push on the screw...it still looks like crap but I've got a rusty floor to fix before I worry about aesthetics...
