145 MPH Speedo Q's

I bought a 145MPH Speedo/gauge cluster out of an 88 IROC Sat for the staggering amount of $15. You can only imagine how happy I was to find such a deal. I want to put this in my 82 Z28, and I was wondering it would be a direct replacement. If not what would be the steps involved to do this?? My 82 factory has the double needle 85MPH/140KMH , I don't know if this matters, but I thought I might mention it. The only physical differences I can see w/o taking the old one out is obvisiosly the speedo, and I can tell the odometer placement and the clear lense is different. Thanx in advance for any info.

It should be a direct bolt in. My 84 had the double needle speedo in it, I put in the 140 speedo (the one that says Z28 at the bottom) with no problems. I don't know if this is the same speedo you are talking about, but it should still bolt right in anyway since it came off an IROC. I also switched out the clear lense because the trip odometer reset was in a different place.

So are you saying you only changed the speedo or will the whole cluster change out?? The problem is that 82 had a unique "font" -meaning the numbering. The 83's up looks similiar, but 82 had bigger numbers and just changing out the speedo would make it look out of place in relation to the other gauges. Thanks again.

P.S. I just walked out to the shop to check myself, but my speedo does not have "Z28" anywhere on it, and it actually reads 145. When I say it reads 145, I don't mean it's like my RS speedo where it has the lettering going to 110 and then having one more unmarked line, I mean it actually has a marked line with 145 wrote on it. Also the tach doesn't redline until 5500 where my RS and my Z28 redline at 5000. They came out of a 88 L98 car if it matters.

Car: 1987 Z28 Convertible
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 5-speed
The above referenced 140-mph speedo with the Z28 logo is a direct replacement unit for 1983 - 1984 Camaros. It was never installed on a production vehicle but is a genuine GM part that's available over the counter.

The 145-mph speedo you have was introduced in late year production 1986 Z28's and continued on TPI Z28/IROC-Z's through 1989 (some convertibles were excluded and received the 110-mph speedo).

Right now I only have the speedo and the clear lense on there. I have had the tach and the fuel gauge in there at one time and they worked fine. The tach that came in the cluster from the junk yard had large fonts on it, it looked out of place like you say. It may have been from an 82, I don't know. I think the gauges you have should bolt right in.
