GETTING REALLY PI$$ED AT P. WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I go to raise or lower the driver's side window (Passanger is fine) it stops after moving a few inches. sometimes in the same spots. I sprayed some WD40 in the tracks (I'm having trouble getting the whole panel off) this helped for a little while, I also switched the two 30 amp fuses and same thing. This happened twice last summer, once in the winter, and now happens ALMOST everytime I move the window. I wonder if I would have had all these problems with the 96 Stang my mom wanted me to buy (I thought that would help get replies)

Calm down!

Sounds like you need a power window motor. Common symptoms are slow windows, and those that stop after a few inches, especially when going up. Look into it. I'm 99 percent sure that's your problem. Unless you hear it binding, which is the other 1 percent chance.

And you would have problems with that 'Stang sooner or later.

Other common problems are bad switches and occasionally the wires, where they go from the door to the cowl, can fatigue from opening and closing the door.

The car is 10 years old, how are you going to react when something major goes wrong?

forgive me for acting up. I spent 5 hours making my car look great, another hour cussing at the window, sorry.

How do I check the wires?
How much is a new motor?

new motor will run you about $45 plus labor (another hour or so), if you have a shop doing it. Could probably save them a few minutes if you already have the door panel removed when you take it in...

Yeah mine did the same thing. It was the window motor. I bought the part and then took it to the shop. $95 total p/l.

Before purchasing a new motor, make sure that the window isn't binding, especially the two guides at the top of the door. As I recall, if the motor becomes too hot through binding, it will shut down briefly.

Before you go dishing a pile of money for a new motor you should try replacing the brushes. For $5 and a whole lot less effort you could be in business. Vader posted a how-to about this a couple weeks back... the motor stays in the door and you just remove the end to replace the brushes.

BTW the power windows in that rustang probably work fine but 5 hours of polishing wouldn't make it look good as a 3rdgen!!!

Here's the link to the link...

I also had the same problem on my 91 z. I went to a junk yard and watched them take the motors out of a 86 or 87 trans am. They were 35 a peice, but then this *** there said the regulator didn't come with them and he wanted another 35 for each one of them. So I said well just cut the ****ers off. They just knocked out the rivits and I am having them installed by a guy a Custom FX for 50 a peice. But hey beats 300 at the dealers.
