1992 firebird huge mistake....

I was given this awesome car from my dad and I loved it at first sight. Well i always made sure everything was taken care of, and one day I over looked something... Wheel came off when i was making a right hand turn. So sad.

Re: 1992 firebird huge mistake....

We told the insurance company we are gunna fix it ourselves and had the car at our house within the hour. I had to drive the car off the tow truck cause of the angle of my drive way. Right now it has a new fender off a 91 firebird and im looking for the ground effects then off to paint.

Re: 1992 firebird huge mistake....

The rotor took most of the blow. The fender and GFX was pretty messed up but other than the rotor nothing mechanical got messed up. The only reason we told insurance was to pay for the tow truck.

you got really lucky with the damage just missed the unibody. your definitely gonna need an alignment.i dont need to really worry about tow truck costs since i get a discount since the owner of the company i use is a family friend

Yeah i got really lucky on it. Its gunna be hard to find the GFX and to match the paint. I cant decide if i should paint the whole car or just the fender and the new hood i just got.

Re: 1992 firebird huge mistake....

Car only has 93,000 miles on it so the paints not to bad but theirs fading on the side mirrors and on the spoiler. Ill probably just save the money up and do a good paint job and keep it yellow

Sorry about the damage to your car-looks like a nice car, glad you are getting her fixed back up. If you can I would just repaint the whole car the same color.

Re: 1992 firebird huge mistake....

Definitely post up pictures when you get it repainted. If you have a sherwin williams automotive store around you they can scan your car and match the color the best they can.

Re: 1992 firebird huge mistake....

Yeah... I put those rims on the car and had to use 1 1/4'' spacer in the front and i used a impact wrench and it didnt tighten them all the way down. So when i went to make the right turn the wheel came off and shot across the 4 lane highway (lucky it didnt hit someone!)

Re: 1992 firebird huge mistake....

Bummer. I remember one time I showed up at the track and in Tech inspection the official started to take off my front lug nuts by hand one by one.
(we all make mistakes)

It's been my experience that things like wheel spacers amplify mistakes. Sort of in the same category as air shocks and traction bars. They work but they may leave you on the side of the road.

traction bars maybe good for traction but they put stresses on parts of the cars that the parts werent designed to handle
