1988 Camaro - seriously creaky door
Not sure what the part is called that has the double-humps on it.
Cam-arm?... Spring-arm...
Somebody get me up to speed on my nomenclature.
See how the cam-arm? is riding low on the caddywampus thing-a-ma-bob (nomenclature?).
That positioning can't be right.
When the door opens/closes, the whole door makes kind of a double-bounce, almost like going over double-whoo-dee's on a motocross track.
Horror-movie quality door creaking here.
(Yes, I know that some grease would *help* - but I figured I'd shoot the vid to show where I'm starting from)
So, all pedagogical nomenclature questions aside, I have a few practical questions for anybody who may have tackled this sort of issue, or who may have insights as to how I should approach it:
Is there a good way to get the caddywampus thing-a-ma-bob off the post on which it is mounted?
There seems to be a retainer-cap of some sort on the post, but it doesn't look like a snap-ring, or threaded part. It just seems to be a crown on the post.
If that's what it is, I wonder how GM got the thing-a-ma-bob mounted on the post in the first place?
I am familiar with the "pins-and-bushings" repair on sagging car doors. The door does have a lot of up-and-down slop in it when the door is open.
Would a pins-and-bushings repair significantly reduce the horror-show character of this door?
Maybe that's a rhetorical question, because I suppose it needs pins-and-bushings no matter what.
I guess I'm fixated on the caddywampus thing-a-ma-bob. I haven't dealt with one of those that's FUBAR before.
By contrast, the passenger door, while equally dirty and neglected, isn't too bad.
Especially, the thing-a-ma-bob isn't caddywampus like the driver's side.

At the risk of appearing to be talking to myself here, I think I discovered the correct names of the double-whoop-tee-do thing and the thing-a-ma-bobber.
I found a video of a guy doing a similar repair on his truck.
His nomenclature:
double-whoop-tee-do thing = "check-link"
thing-a-ma-bobber = "check-link roller"

A little more exploring, and I see the Rockauto.com folks have a "Door Hinge Pin & Bushing Kit" (Dorman part #38401).
...but no link-roller listed at all.
I wonder if that's something I'll have to hunt from the Chevy dealer, or is it just a generic sort of part that maybe could be obtained as a replacement for a different Chevy vehicle, and used in this application?

That's called a check strap. And the creaky sounds is from worn out pins and bushing.

You might want to look at these. I understand that the owner is extremely helpful.

Oh yeah!!!
That's EXACTLY where I'm at.
In fact, the crows and blue jays start going nuts when I open the door on the '88.
Something about it makes them livid!
Thanks for the vid!
