Door Handles

I dislike the 3rdgen doorhandles soo much. Ive been debating options and heres what ive come up with.

A) shave em
+ sleek look
- cant run at the drag strip (saftey issues)

B)
+ flush with body
- gotta cut a whole in the door

so does anyone have other options, suggestions, etc ??

Not my area of expertise, but what would really kick, would be to forge your OWN door handles! Make them custom out of aluminum or brass, and paint them if you chose. Thats cool...

Actually I like the thought of what he is looking to do. I've given some thought to how to get a nice flush looking door handle like are on modern cars. Color match and smooth lines.

Best bet would be to look at some current cars, find one with handles that you like and flush them into the doors. The internals aren't going to be that much different that they'd require alot of mods to make them work.

I saw some on a Geo(of all cars!)Metro--they were pretty nice--they're almost inside the door-you can't see them-to open the door you have to stick your fingers inside of the door between the quarter and the door(hope I'm making myself clear)
Also seen some on a Olds 98(think)they were mounted up high on the door pillar. Good thing about those 2 cars is they're stock parts so you wouldn't have to fab alot of stuff up! Good luck!

In '94 Hot Rod Magazine did an '82 Z28 Project. They cut the stock ones out and replaced them with ones from an 88-98 GM full size truck. It looked real good. The article gave a good description and pics of the process. They also filled the antenna and used a remote under-dash unit from Dakota Digital. They also filled the nose emblem. It really cleaned up the car. I don't have the article anymore but I'm pretty sure it was from 94. The whole project was pretty cool. Hope this helps.

Look at '92 up Pontiac Bonneville handles. They're smoothed into the doors and have a lighted ring around the keyhole that comes on when you flip the handle. Wouldn't that be great at night?
