painting the twin turbo camaro ( helppppp)
as some of u rember last year i started to paint my car using the rolled on rustoleum. it was a temp paint job till i could spray the car. well i only ever managed to get the hood done , and the rear deck. the stuff help up great for a full year in direct sunlight.and still looks as good as the day i put it on.
but im not going to finish the car off with it im going to strip that stuff off and apply a black epoxy primer ( eastwood) and then spray it with a single stage eastwood boulevard black
what are u guys thoughts on this paint
here is the epoxy primer
Epoxy Primer and Catalyst Kit Black Gal
and here is the paint
Epoxy Primer and Catalyst Kit Black Gal
they also have this in a bc/cc instead of a single stage which i thought about getting and tossing in some blue or red pearl in the clear, just enough to give it a subtle color tint at certian angles
also can anyone see a difference between the boulevard black and this one??

thoughts, suggestions?

i was thinking maybe something like this to do ghost stripes on the car
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sparkling-XX...item19d1a4b74c
thinking about it i dont think doing the whole car with a blue or red or even copper tint would look the way im thinking it would

I would do a base/clear. Every primer/base I have used was easy, and I have heard matrix clear is very forgiving for a new painter. I used a high solids deltron clear $$$ and it was hard to lay down nice. I used PPG JC-60 (the cheapest ppg makes) and it was much easier to spray, but it does not give the show car shine like a high solids clear does.
Best advice I can give, is get primer gun for primer only, and a second gun for base/clear. 3 is the best but not necessary IMO

this will be my first real paint job so would a single stage be the way to go ? or is spraying a bc/cc not as hard as everyone makes it out to be
im really thinking id like to do the bc/cc so i can use the black pearl and lay down some subtle pearl racing strips .though some ppl are saying i can mix the pearl witht he single stage stuff to and others say i cannot mix in the pearl with it cause it will not look right once i wetsand and buff it.

If it was me I'd do the bc /cc , and for a really deep shine shine , Spray you base then on your first clear coat mix 1 part base to 4 parts clear, spray that , the do your ghost stripe ( good Idea ) then two clear coats, but that's me, Its your car enjoy it.

bc/cc is not that hard, jsut get a junk hood, body work and then prime/paint/clear it for practice, then prime/paint/clear again each time you set the gun up to get it right before hitting your car with it

Definitely go bc/cc.Its easier to work with IMO.The nicest black metallic I've seen is actually on dodges...I believe the paint code was PXR.If your going to do stripes you are better of base and clear coat the car.Let it dry for at least a week depending on your climate maybe longer.Unless your spraying in a booth and can bake your paint. When it's cured enough sand it down with 1000, clean it well, lay out your stripes, mask everything else off. Then you can unmask everything and re clear.Summit also has a paint line.I've never used it but I think PHR mag did a article on it.

You could also price out a 1/2 gallon of base coat from a body shop supply store.
Omni is the "economy" brand from PPG.
Also, you could get your clear for fairly cheap.LIMCO which is the economy brand of BASF makes a nice high solids clear coat that our shop used.

You'll need a quart of hardner and a gallon of reducer.
You could get a 1/2 gallon of LIMCO base and you can use the reducer for both your base and clear.
Ok, so guns... I have a IR gun that I used on a daily basis painting 2-3 cars a day.Its similar to a Sata but its a quality gun for only $100.They sell them at tractor supply.
Sailtexas is right, definately going to need at least 2 guns.Your going to need a primer gun and a base gun.Your base gun should have a 1.4 tip if your going to spray your base and clear out of it.You may also want to invest in some tac rags and in line filters.
Check out this site there's a lot on there...
