cowl hood without ridge???? anyone???

Im looking for a nice cowl hood for my 89z that I am going to have painted soon. My problem is that I want a 2 or 2 3/4" cowl and I want the cowl to be flat(no ridge). Can anyone help me find one??? Pics if you got em.

Mike,

I'm completely with you on this one. I don't think anyone makes one. I talked to Glasstek (Glasstech?) and asked if the ridge can be sanded off. Tory told me that you would have to fill in the ridge from the bottom first and that they would NOT attempt this, even if I paid extra. I can only assume the other manufacturers would say the same thing.

BTW, Glasstek has the only cowl induction hood where the cowl extends beyond the rear edge of the hood towards the windshield, like the original '69 hood. And it's only $360.

I have the Glasstek hood and it is a great hood, but it does have the ridge down the center. I wouldn't have one without the ridge, my personal preference. I don't know anybody that makes one without the ridge. Wish I could help.

Harwood makes one with a very subtle ridge that looks like it belongs on the car.

Willie,

I believe Harwood's cowl hood does indeed have the top cowl part that extends beyond the lower hood edge towards the windshield. The rear cowl opening is at a nice sloping angle which sort of mirrors the slope of the windshield.

The Harwood has the least pronounced ridge. The cowl has the same subtle body-line that the stock hood has. Just keep in mind that there are a lot of us that have had very bad luck with the Harwood's fitment.

You're right Matt. I've seen Jim85IROC's car before. There is a noticeable difference between the Harwood and Glasstech's hood though. We can all see what Harwood's hood looks like, thanks to Jim's pics. The Glasstech cowl opening is hard to describe. It is not the same, but resembles the original '69 hood and is only 2 inches tall (much more to my liking). I believe the Harwood is 2-1/2" tall.

Harwood calls ther hood a 2.5", but in reality it's more like 3+. Anybody have a pic of the Glasstech hood on a car? Willie's description is making me curious. I'm not terribly happy with my hood and would prefer one that more resembles the 69 camaro style (without the ridge however). I like the Goodmark steel cowl hood, but it just stops abruptly at the cowl instead of extending like the 69SS hood. Guess I may be welding a 69 cowl to a stock camaro hood.

Jim,

Go to http://photos.yahoo.com/j_hougnon

for some pics. Jesse is the guy who has posted on this site before with this link to his car and hood. I like what I see.

Hmm. The Glasstech seems to fit just as poorly as my Harwood.
