WHAT ARE THE MAIN BODY STLYE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MY 83 TA...and 84-90 TA's???
I was wondering the main body style differences btwn my 83 and all newer up to 90 TA's. Is it just the ground effex? I know there are some differences. Well any way, I just bought my 1983 TA, it is my first car by the way..im 16. I just found out what made my car look a lil funny, and it was that my car has ground effex on the front and back, but is missing them on the sides underneath the doors. The previous owner switched the doors a while back and had it repainted. I was wondering if i should try to get ground effex from a bone yard...but i wasnt sure if i needed the ones from strictly an '83. If i need to buy a whole new set of ground effex....then i would like to buy ground effex from a newer TA...or even a GTA...thats if there is a significant difference btwn them. Are there any other types of ground effex that would look good on my '83 TA? Would newer ground effex from an '86-90 fit my car? Also, are there any ground effex that make my car look a little lower? Please post pics of the side view and front view of your car with ground effex. Preferrably TA's...but i guess i wouldnt mind seeing some pics of camaro's. Thanks.

See my response to you under "Intellitonix gauge cluster" where you addressed me specifically and check your e-mail.
To sum it up generally for T/As GTAs only:
82-83: no door ground effects, no wrap around front or rear spoilers, unless limited edition model i.e. Pace car or Mecham (see 1984 description)
1984 has door gfx, rocker gfx, wrap around spoiler front and three piece wrap around rear but 82-84 stlye nose.
85-90 new nose, fender gfx, more agressive door and rocker gfx and three piece?? wrap around rear. TAs have vents, GTAs do not. All same bodies and gfx.
91-92 completely new style, Banshee (beak looking) nose with very different door and rocker gfxs.

You could get an '84 Trans Am with or without ground effects. The '84 ground effects were only used in '84.

Alright thanks for all your help. One thing to add though, my 1983 has newer tail lights that are from like an '86. Also, I have a wrap around spoiler on my '83. My gfx look lower than the ones on the '84, besides the fact that I am missing the gfx below the door. They look the same size as those on the '86 or '87 red and silver posted. By the way that is a beautiful TA. I want to know if I could get gfx from a newer TA like '84-'90 and put them on my 1983. Would I have to buy the whole set? Could I just buy the pieces that go below the doors? I was also told that the doors were replaced on my car. Please somebody help me out. I am really confused. Thanks.

Ground effects were an option in 84. What you need to do is find out what year GFX or bumper covers you have. Then try to match then on the sides. Any GFX from any year 82-92 will fit physicly but may look out of place with your bumpers. Does your car have a little GFX just ahead of the rear wheel? If it does that means the bumpers have probably been replaced. Try to find out from the previous owner what happened. If the GFX was taken off when the doors were replaced and not put back on, are they still around?

Thanks. I am going to try and contact the previous owner. One question though. Can I buy a set of new ground effex from an '86-'90 and put them on my 1983 TA? I like the gfx on the '87's. Can I put the gfx from an '87 on my '83? Please let me know. Thanks.

Jim83TA,
Here is a place that sells the complete kit (used) for 85-90 style www.thirdgenresource.com
or www.nextgenparts.com for individual pieces.
www.classicindustries.com also sells individual pieces, but they are not posted on line, you have to buy their catalog (which IS incedible but their prices are high).
Also try www.amesperf.com
If I come across anywhere else, I'll let you know.
