anyone know how to roll back an odometer on a 91-92 style cluster?

i put my crate engine in at "115546" on the odometer last summer. i want to roll it back so that reads as zero, but i couldnt figure it out. is it possible? how do i do it?

i am never going to get rid of teh car, so its not like i am trying to cheat someone, (nor do i plan to). i just think it would be cool to know how many miles are on teh motor.

thanks

well i took the whole cluster out, and i couldnt figure it out.

there was a thing that i could "twist" a little, but it wouldnt budge. i dont know if there was some kind of lock on it or somthing that i had to take off. i dunno, i didnt see any way to do it.

thanks though,

my advice is to just reset the trip odometer then yank off the reset with some pliers cause i never use that darn thing anyway. I think it would be kinda neat to have the original miles plus engine miles on it

Doesn't your trip od wrap around after 999.9?
I thought that everyone's did.

I heard you were selling the z28? Is that so? You never even took it to the track with the new motor, what's up with that? Oh well. So now you're trying to turn back the miles, hmm... Why not just leave it alone and show the shopper that it's got a brand new 350 and that the miles are only body but everything on the car has been replaced :-)
I'm still pissed that you never took her to the track. How about I buy the 670cfm TB from you and you swap on the stock :-)

Just take it to a used car dealer-they'll surely know how to roll it back.

If you want to do this you have to be patient. But most importants TAKE IT OUT! Do not be in a hurry and just roll it back with your screwdriver because you WILL break it. Take the entire speedo cluster out.

Next, take the piece that has the numbers out all the way. Its easier said than done depending on the year mechanical vs electric. The key is to align the numbers where you want them AND have all of the little stoppers come back into the little cut ou where they belong.

This probably makes no sense, but if you tear it all apart, you'll understand.

Doesn't have to be that complicated--make sure you pull the trip od arm out first--you can tell who tried to do this because the clear lens is always cracked in the same place(look at the pic)Once you get the dash piece off pull the speedo out(pulls right out)then unscrew the trip od piece from the back--has small rollers in it--that's what really ads the resistance to the #'s--next just take a pwr screw driver to the last # on the mileage counter--it'll spin freely--and just go! #'s will spin really quick then!
Hope this info will be used the right way--not to cheat anybody! E-mail me if you don't understand.
