Steering column wobbles
The steering column on my IROC wobbles up and down right at the tilt mechanism. I've heard before that there are just a few screws to tighten down in the column. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Advice is very much appreciated. Thanks

Car: 2001 Camaro Z28/1995 Camaro Z28
Engine: just a little 5.7(LS1-320/340 RW)
Transmission: SMOOOOOOTH T-56/Auto. . .
Axle/Gears: 3.42 and 2.73
Well...start off by removing the horn button, yanking the wheel and the PITA clip for holding the locking 'star' for lack of a better name.
(tricky part now)Remove the kick panel under the steering column and disconnect the quick connect wiring for the horn, turn signal and ignition system.(wasn't that a PITA?)
After you get those off, you'll end up removing the screw holding your ignition in place, yank that. Remove the turn signal cam and you're nearly home free.
You should be able to see 3 screws (torx 20) i believe.
REMOVE them and replace them w/locktite on them! ! ! ! !
reverse the process.
hope this helps...
IF I MISSED ANYTHING, someone please correct this.

Duff, I think his problem is further down in the column. Mine is doing the same thing and I tightned the three screws you described with no luck. There's a good thread in the tech section for the problem Ryan's having (pic's and everything). Unfortunatly it's an even bigger PITA!

Thanks for the help guys, I have done a little bit with the steering columns, removed steering wheels and taken the whole thing out, but digging this far in will be a new experience.

A friend of mine had this same problem. He fixed it about 5 times and got sick of the problem. If you want to fix it plan a long night. I recomend replacing the column. Good luck.
