KEYLESS ENTRY

I want to install an aftermarket keyless entry system in my car. Has anyone done this? If so, Has anyone used the VPA kit from summit? Any info would be helpful.

thanks,
Jason

as long as you have power door locks it's a joke to do , I've done it several times on different cars and as long as you read the manual , ask questions BEFORE you start cutting the wires and use your head you'll be ok.

Do you have to remove the door panels?

Aroound the locks and window controls there are torx screws to undo. I think the size is 5. Be careful there are some fake ones, you to not want to strip those out. Also there is a tech artice on this page.

You don't have to remove the door panels. All you have to remove is the driver's side kick panel and pull the harness out. There should be a light blue and a white wire which will be the ones you cut to install your keyless. The keyless install manual should have different diagrams for different lock systems.Be sure to use the one for a 5-wire reverse polarity system(usually system "C"), and just follow the instructions.

Would you be able to pop the hatch w/ it even if you don't have the button to pop the hatch. I'm thinking about putting a keyless entry system into my car. I have the PDL and after reading this I figure it could be done in no time!!

If you don't already have the power hatch release option, then you will need to add a solenoid to one of the extra channels on your remote system.

RSpeeds got it right... the wires for the door locks are right behind the driver's side kick panel and he's got the colors correct. I installed my own alarm system (real PITA) and that had to be one of the easiest parts to do. BTW, you'll only need to do the one side and it will control both doors. Check out eBay for the remote hatch release or your local junk yard.

Are you guys sure that for a Thirdgen F-body it's a "Type C" or reversed plarity system??

I'm just curious cause I'm going to attempt to install one tomorrow myself, if the weather holds out. I thought that the switch was made to reversed polarity with the 93 F-bodies. I guess I'll need another relay if it's the reversed system.

Yes, for the power door locks, you need to give it 12 volts, NOT a negative ground signal.

Ok I know that it needs +12V. But is it a low current pulse or is it the reverse polarity type which is a high current +12V and requires additional relays??

I checked the switch on the door of an 89 IROC and it only had 3 wires, which leads me to believe that it's the "Type A" installation which is just a low current pulse. The "Type C" has five wires to the switch.

Yes, I am positive it is a reverse polarity system.I install alarm/keyless entry/remote start systems, and high-end car audio/video equipment for a living( almost 10 years now).As a matter of fact,I just installed an alarm w/keyless entry on my wife's RS lastnight. Just go to the wire harness behind the driver's kick panel and you will find the two wires(light blue and white).

Re: KEYLESS ENTRY

Hello all,

I've read the posts above and looked at the tech guide but I still have a question on keyless entry.

Above it says that you cut and use the white and light blue wires in the harness...........when I look at the guide, it says there are three wires, light blue (lock), black (unlock) and white (trigger). Do I do anything with the black wire?

Just want to make sure before I cut anything!

Re: KEYLESS ENTRY

Ok guys, I figured this out after getting the car back..................I used the blue and black wires, not the blue and white as stated above. This is with the VPA unit and it works perfectly...............!
