Opened Power Hatch, Motor Will Not Stop Running

Opened Power Hatch, Motor Will Not Stop Running
Searched this, but didn't see anyone with the same problem.
'89 Formula
Never had a problem with the hatch before.
The car sat for several months with a dead battery.
Put a new battery in it. Opened the hatch. The motor lifted the hatch, I opened it, but the motor continued to run.
Tried closing the hatch. it is in push-UP mode, and would not close.
Couldn't find the fuse, eventually disconnected the battery to get it to quit.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

I had a similar problem.......make sure the slides are properly greased and there's a little switch/lever just above the motor housing near the electrical connection that clicks when the hatch is all the way up or down. I've used a small pick to manipulate it. You might not see it right away but it's there....I'll see if I can get a decent pic of it.

The black housing the plug connects to has a switch between it and the frame of the hatch pull down unit ....wish I could get a better pic but you'll need a small pick or something to manipulate it.....if you click on the pic then click on it again, a new window should pop up allowing you to magnify the area....you can actually see the little switch in the pic when you do this.....just magnify that black housing above the motor

Here's a pic of mine. The plastic holding the motor is broken, the screwdriver is actually stuck in the crack. Clearly, that is a problem, but I can't see how that could cause the motor to keep running.

the crack is probably keeping the motor from developing enough torque to push the frame up and allowing it to fully raise the whole unit.....you're gonna have to purchase a new motor housing (cracked plastic part).........got mine from TDS....he reinforces them with epoxy I believe

Typically the symptom of "motor keeps running" means the gear nut is broken. You also have a cracked motor housing (that clear plastic part you showed). In your case the cracked housing could be the entire problem by allowing the OD of the gear nut to come out of contact with the worm drive or the motor. But your pull-down unit may have both problems. You will not be certain until you disassemble, clean and inspect the gear nut. Follow the Tech Article I wrote that is posted on ThirdGen.org under the "General Repair" category. Once you have followed the instructions and removed the gear nut, clean it with WD40 and a used toothbrush. Wipe it off, then inspect it for missing teeth or other breakage. Once you determine what parts are in need of replacement, I can supply them. You've already mentioned broken motor housing and bad guides. The TDS 204040 hatch repair kit is most likely what you'll need. You do not need to replace the motor if it is running nicely in both directions and not making any bad noises such as bearing squawl. The 204040 kit contains the reinforced motor housing, new aftermarket guides, new gear nut, new push nut, a packet of synthetic grease, 3 new mounting screws, push nut and installation tool along with a 4 pg detailed instruction sheet.
