Power windows get stuck

Power windows get stuck
ok obviously i have power windows. For a while now they have been getting "stuck". Its mostly the driverside window. Sometimes they start going up or down like i want and then just get stuck. I figured it was the switch. Because when i push the switch at night while the window is going down i can see my amp meter go down slightly and a slight dim in my headlights. Well i just installed two new switches from YearOne and that didnt do anything. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a bad motor. There's a discussion about this in the tech section. I posted on another section asking about a good price for the motors. GM dealers want $100 -$150 each for them. I found a source on-line that claims to have brand new AC Delco motors for $65 delivered. Email me offline if you want the source - bird@javanet.com. I haven't ordered any yet, I'm waiting 'til spring and I take the car out of storage.

It may be that your windows are simply binding (it the motor gets too hot, it cuts off). Try repositioning the window guides at the top of the door frame.

Remove the door panel. Once it's off, you'll see the two guides at the top of the metal door frame. Two bolts to adjust--a little goes a long way. As long as you've gone that far, clean and relube (white grease) the window tracks and power locks.

your problem is the wiring clip that goes to the motor. When you press the switch in either direction the motor moves slightly and jarrs the clip. take the door pannel off and diconnect the clip and clean it. than try a wiggle test. if the window stops moving when you wiggle it, go to the daler and get new clips. Also check the motor to see if it is loose. If it is drill out the bottom two rivets and replace them with short nuts and bolts and lock washers. Last time i adjusted the tracks i coulden't get the damn thing to stop squealing for months so don't touch them unless they are all ready loose.

The clip thing is a good idea, but be sure to lubricate the sliding parts. Its a whole lot easier to move on oiled parts than dry and rusty parts. My recomendation is white lithium spray (any autoparts store should have it).

I agree with most of the respones but one more thing. If you have everything lubed up and the motor works sometimes and doesn't sometimes lub the motor. Its been a while since I've done this but what you do is drill a very small hole in the plastic cap of the motor and spray a small amount of wd 40 inside and operate the motor. It cleans and lubs the burshes. This is not a permanent fix but may make the motor last another 6 months to a year.
