I just finished restoring my (dented and slighty rusty) T-top bar!
I don't have any pictures of what the bar use to look like when i started but it had the typical rust and the top rail looked beat to hell.
I blasted the bar down with coal slag and used a 50grit sanding disc on a angle die grinder to get off the thick rubber type coating on the top of the rail (plus this will give the filler a nice grip!) The dents were deep in some spots so i had to use a few cartridge roll. I cleaned the bare bar with duplicolor's wax and grease remover then i coated the bar with etching primer...I used a fiberglass filler on the rail to fill in the majority of the dents then sanded the spots i filled flush with the rail then i added a skim coat of bondo over the whole bar after i felt good with the look and feel i laid down some high build primmer and a red guide coat then wet sanded the bar with 400 grit. Found a few spots so i fixed them laid down another high build coat with a red guide coat then wet sanded till the look and fill was good...I then masked the bar and painted the gasket channels with thick brush on enamel paint let that dry for a day pull the tape cleaned the bar with wax/grease remover then took a few passes with a tack cloth... Laid down 3 coats of duplcolor trim paint...

Very nice! Mine was wayyyy too far gone to be saved (came off in about 5 pieces). Ended up getting a near-perfect used one for next to nothing at a JY.
Just painted my rear window trim yesterday with that same paint, turned out pretty good.
