Pinting my 84 Z28
I was wondering if you guys would reccomend painting the car with spray paint. The stock color of the car is a white that is now faded due to the years. and I was wondering if I could just get away with it by buying some spray cans @ home depot and painting it myself for spending more money and getting it done cheaply at Maaco?

Do you own a decent air compressor? If so, Harbor Freight has a SATA knockoff HVLP gun for $40. Does a decent job, can be used for primer, base, and clear. You can paint the car yourself and get a really nice finish for a few hundred bucks and a bunch of effort and patience. I wouldn't recommend spray cans unless you are just sealing out weather to avoid rust, until you can paint it 'right'. It won't last, andeven a good raqttle can job still looks like a rattle can job. But then again, it's better than rust!

The faded paint or a Maaco job will look better than any rattle can job.

Professional paint job
Good Home paint job
Maaco paint job
Poor home paint job
Faded paint job
...
Rattlecan paint job
Rust
Stay above the dotted line and you'll be good to go . Haha yeah, and even rattlecan paint isn't good for preventing rust. You'd have to find a good autobody supply store and get some 2k epoxy in a spray can - yes, real automotive grade epoxy. In a rattlecan.
