ground effects

i saw a bunch of ground effects/chin spoilers from newer camaro models, the kind with the holes near the front and rear tires..will those fit with my 84? and do those have bolts behind the z28/rs labels (on the ground effects) like my 84's?

I just did this swap on my 84. Do you have ground effects at all now?

I didn't, so I had to swap out the front bumper, so I could mount the chin piece. I also had to add brackets, so the skirts would attach to the car.

If you already have GFX, the chin piece should be a direct swap. The side skirts, the screw holes are in different spots, so you'll have to drill new holes from what I've read on here.

The rear bumper will also have to be swapped out.

Also your question about the screws. No the 91/92 does not have the screws behind the Z28 labels. The newer style went with a bracket that had studs on them that go through the fenders. Then they used speed nuts to hold them on. So you might have to drill holes for those too.

Here is my 84.

Re: ground effects

i dont have them yet..just got back from the local u pull it and saw some there. im going back tomorrow with help to get everything. chin spoiler, ground effects, they didnt have good rear bumper skirts there so i was gonna see how it looked with my current set up. incidently im also getting a 110 mph speedo, some interior plastics, headlight housing, and a 2nd gen spoiler that i will attempt the fab work on. pretty big score really. drilling new holes isnt a big deal, and i do have the 84 ground effects/chin spoiler that came with the z28 that year..so if ur right that should be a direct swap other than any holes i might have to drill. ur car looks great btw. mine should be similar when all is said and done. different color scheme but other than that and spoiler should be same. thanks for the info!

oh and i feel ya on the waiting for it to be drivable thing..its been over 2 mos since ive been able to drive mine..various issues with carb etc..im seriously jonesin..im so sick of driving my other 4 cyl auto car..blehhh

The labels are the same dimensions for either one. I just haven't put mine on yet, because the car was just painted and they said not to put them on yet.

I have nice new Z28 ones sitting on the counter

Re: ground effects

so am i gonna have to make/buy some brackets for the ground effects to make it work in addition to screw new holes? what did you end up doing for that? i might also just try the chin spoiler 1st with the rest being 84 gfx see how that looks.

oops i reread ur prev post. u pretty much said everything there. u think ill have to get the brackets still even though i have the 84s gfx on there already?

Re: ground effects

When I got the GFX off the donor car, I got the backet too. When you take them off, just reach inside the fender and you'll be able to feel the speed nuts.

So on yours I would just drill the new holes for those.

Re: ground effects

gotcha, is the bracket in the front kinda behind where the label is? u did say fender so im assuming its in the front. also, the portion of the gfx that is on the door itself..how is that attached, screwed or stick on?

Re: ground effects

yes it attaches to back side of the GFX behind the label.

The door ones have studs that go through and connected with speed nuts.

Re: ground effects

sorry this is a kind of old thread but just wanted to update and maybe get a little advice.so i went to a few junkyards and found several gfx pieces, and one chin spoiler..pita! 1st off..they set these cars on these giant metal stands and every gfx was crushed (ud think they might think someone wants those..but nooo) i didnt notice that the last time i looked for some reason. and almost every screw holding the chin spoiler in place was stripped or whatev..im almost thinking taking a whole front end might be easier. and buy some gfx from someone either at tgo or ebay or something..what did you u do cdoyle with ur gfx, did you buy them new or jy? i got so many other things i need to get with this car i might have to wait on the superficial stuff haha. i did get a bunch of stuff at the jy tho..speedo, interior plastics, a 2nd gen spoiler (which i hope to fab on) i still love the jy!

oops i just saw you got them from a donor car..

ya I got my GFX's from several donor cars actually. I would find some, and then later on find some in better shape and get those. The side ones are usually pretty easy to find. it's that front chin piece that is the real tough one, if the PO didn't destroy it the JY did.
