Louvers on my 92 Firebird...Take a Look!
Hey everyone, I have been contemplating louvers on my car for a while now so I put them on and thought they looked great. I do want to get a notchback in the future, but the louvers are good for me right now. Comment and Enjoy

I hope you park that car in the winter with louvers on. They pack with snow that turns to ice that cracks the louvers in the freeze thaw cycles.

Honestly, they look cheap. They might not be, but they have that... look.

Well I had the believe I was getting a more durable, better looking louver but I think its fine. And why would I leave it sit in the winter and knowingly let my louvers break? Like I said, this isnt permanent or anything so I can always change them.

I think the comment was made because they look cheap and you'll remove them when they break. I don't want to say anything negative about these, but they don't flow with the lines of the car all. There is a huge lip on the window edge and then they raised the louver slats so high. Sorry, but they look like cheap Walmart plastic parts.
However, if you like them, then that's all that matters for your car.

I like the louver look on these cars, but there's something about these louvers, i think it may be the rounded "bubble" kinda look that the plastic gives, that just turns me off. I have an aluminum set on my camaro, and they run flat in the center. Take a look.

Try and find a set of OEM louvers...I mean ones in real good shape with no dents or warped slats... Few and far between, and you'll pay top dollar when you actually find a set.
There's aftermarket aluminum sets also...some look better than others. Normally the one piece type look the best IMO - but again, they're getting harder to find too. And shipping is expensive.
It's especially hard to find ANY with the third brake light provision....I'm guessing that's why yours have that wide ledge around the sides that give them that "bubbly" look. What brand are those?
EDIT: And can they break? - yes. Can aluminum ones get dented and warp? - yes again. Should you really have either one on during winter? - no.
Here's a few pics of mine (and yes, the one piece ones are plastic) VS. the 3 piece aluminum ones (for sale locally )

Re: Louvers on my 92 Firebird...Take a Look!
You are correct on the warping-denting-cracking. Mine have hale damage :P i bought them very cheap so i figured i could press the dents out and maybe fill them out, repaint them, but i haven't gotten around to it. you can see in the pictures too that some of them are crooked in some places. So 92Firebug, i'd advise buying some that are either plastic running straight, or aluminum with no damages, and keep them away from harsh elements. But of course it's entirely up to you! and please, go eat some tuners, seems to be a lot of them around!

If you have the Aluminum louvers and they are dented no problem. Drop them off at the local paintless dent removal place and tell them no rush.

I'm trying to find a good priced set myself. I absolutely hate the 3 piece ones though

+1 on OEM louvers. I have a set on mine that look great and don't rattle at all. I am going to try a different look for awhile though so I am selling them

What you have now looks cheap and doesnt flow well with the car. IMO it detracts from your car.

Re: Louvers on my 92 Firebird...Take a Look!
I have the three piece ones for my bird like those pictured here because they were all aluminum and I could not find a complete set of factory ones. I specifically wanted no plastic if I had to settle. Have seen too many warp in the summer heat here. Thankfully mine are straight with no warpage and can be removed easily if needed.
