Lower Spoiler. Is it repairable?

Happy Thanks Giving guys. Obviously the PO never cared about parking with the spoiler kissing the curbe. But with all the wear and tear, is it possible to bondo or apply "cat-hair" fiberglass to patch up the hole?

Re: Lower Spoiler. Is it repairable?

Anything can be repaired...Personally I would check my local craigslist and just see if someone is parting out a 1985-1992 camaro and see if the front spoiler is in good condition. If not, then an auto parts store can sell you a kit for plastic repair that will do the job.

Re: Lower Spoiler. Is it repairable?

Don't use bondo, it'll crack and fall off if/when the spoiler hits anything. What I used was some 3M automix plastic repair stuff (like in the "taking the mystery out of plastic repair" thats on here) and zip ties underneath where it was torn - so far it's held up to being moved around the garage, but I can't say how well it'll hold up on the road yet.

Re: Lower Spoiler. Is it repairable?

Pick-n-pull/wreaking yard, you should be able to find one that's at least a better candidate for fixing, the one you have is in really bad shape.

I thought about it. But the closest junkyard is 50 miles east (Yuma AZ) and 120 west (San Diego).

Re: Lower Spoiler. Is it repairable?

2 ways, you can use a plastic welder (harbor freight 15 bucks) or liquid urethane. I would plastic weld it, then coat with urethane, then sand it smoth

evercoat maxim flexible urethane. Check ebay, you can find some great deals on it there. I've used it with a LOT of success for fixing things like that

Anything is repairable. Just depends if you desire to put the time into it. I spent close to 23 hours total to fix mine. About $30 in supplies. It held up pretty good and to this day of it being in the basement in awkward positions it still has not cracked again.

Carlos, good job on the spoiler. Looks good. Seeing those pictures make me very optimistic because a local body shop said there was nothing that could fix the damage. Thanks for posting up pictures too.

Re: Lower Spoiler. Is it repairable?

Anything is fixable if you put the time into it. Is all the damage done to yours in that area? That lip on my old 92 had cracks as you can see on each corner and in the middle. The tricky part was just having it stay in place until the fiberglass dried up. Then it was just sanding it down and doing another coat on the back side for insurance.

Yup that's the only major spot that involves plastic.

Re: Lower Spoiler. Is it repairable?

when you fill that area with the hole in, use a small piece of chicken wire behind the hole for added structure
