another build thread
so i saw how others have build threads so i thought i would do the same.
this will be very slow going but at least ill have something to show my progress.
i current plan is to take my 91 camaro that i totalled and combine it with an 88 that i recently got.
the 88 is a very good 99% rust free body but has a catch... it has almost NO electrical or anything not needed for a drag car. so what to do? i thought to myself why not take everything i need off my white car? well that sounded simple enough.
my goal is to make a G-Machine inspired camaro. ls1,6speed,lowered,good handling, but ultimately a street car.
Here is the only rendering I have right now
Mods planed:
Exterior:
Grabber blue with gloss black accents. nascar style spoiler, brake ducts where blinkers are, custom led lights everywhere, His retrofit, remove amber from rear lights, functional hood louvers, remove trim, relocate battery and washer tank to rear,4th gen overflow, wire tuck as possible,zr1 style iroc emblems, viper or equivalent gas cap and filler neck, and custom recovery hook modeled off of nufnuf.
under the car i want to show off the suspension so most will be black with the exception of those pieces. same with under the hood. i would like to keep the satin black and might even put a engine cover on to keep water off with the louvers.
Suspension:
umi:wonderbar(done),sfc(done),roto joint lca,roto joint phb,weld in lcarb(done),edelbrock 3pt strut tower brace. spohn t56 torque arm(done),extended ball joints,del-a-lums,bump steer kit,36/18 sway bar,caster camber plates,ast dampers(done), ground control weight jacks 1000/225 springs.
Interior:
Dakota digital ,Fixed back cobra racing seats, crow harness, 6 or 4 point cage with modified door bar to go under armrest, suede covered dash and other interior parts, custom switch plate(done),rear seat delete? B&m shifter(done),custom shift ****(done)
Drivetrain:
t56,aluminum (ls1)driveshaft, Eaton trutrac,3.73 gears, 28spline axles, rear support cover, Arp studs, wilwood fsl/c5 front brakes , adjustable rear proportional valve, branded lines.
Engine:
Lt1,, 3.5 inch hooker aero chamber, accu sump, canton road race oil pan, oil cooler, and a true cold air intake
Wheels/tires:
Backup set of ctw motorsports
Ccw classics 18x10.5 proper backspacing(6.5"?) and shims to have exact wheels on every corner
Nitro invo 285or 295/35zr18 everywhere
and more that ill post as i remember
well here it goes this is the 88
wish me luck!

Re: another build thread
It looks pretty complete if you ask me. It looks like it has all the essentials for a carb car and should be a great place to start. Your wiring harness and whatnot should swap over with little to no issues. Do you have pics of your totaled car?

well i weighed that out... i didnt take them off much and they leak and once they are off, i think they mess up the lines on the car. not to mention the hardtop is lighter and more ridged.
well i was out there for 12 hours today..... im beat. shower, bed, work
who knows when ill do some more to it

Best of luck man. It's a big project, but once your done you'll have a great sense of accomplishment! And hopefully you connect to the new car as much as with the old one. Take it from someone who has done it...it's worth it!

Cool project, good to see that you're back in the scene despite your old one biting the dust. Good luck and keep us posted.

so since my car is outside, i put some silicone on the hatch where the metal meets the window as a temporary seal(going to paint) and to fill the holes in the car where a spoiler used to be. thought it would be easy to take off........ im not so sure now.
also i put in my 4th gen pedals the other day

Re: another build thread
You MAY be ok with a 4 gauge but do some research. I know most battery relocation kits including the one I bought come with 1 gauge cable....probably for a reason, but like I said, I'd do a little research on it to be sure.

As far as the bumper bolts, I know what your talking about. Us firebird guys have it easy though because we just remove the headlight assembly and they are right there lol. Good luck with them though!

Looking good man. I love the look of some nice shiny new parts under a 3rd gen! And yea, working outside sucks. I'm spoiled with my garage, but when I have to change the oil on my beater or fix it in this new england cold, I hate it!

Re: another build thread
i just hate that the car looks.... country to say it lightly. i really cant wait to build a car that brings pride to our third gens and give us a good name. not a joe dirt ride.
i have a guy(cagedruss) that i cant communicate with that we threw ideas for a spoiler around.
even though it will be awhile before the car is painted or complete, i think it will completely change the look of the car.
funny thing happened to me the other day while i was sitting in the car. i was playing around with the radio, when a mouse crawled out from the e-brake slot. it scared me at first and then i got really mad that a mouse was possibly eating all the wires that i put in. so i tried to chase it down(dismantleing the interior in the process) and never found it. that is another good reason why i HATE having that car outside.

car is looking good. i also found a mouse in the car im working on, lots of sticky glue pads and a bunch of dryer sheets will do the trick. yes dryer sheets put them in some of the little places mice like to go for some reason they dont like the smell and will leave, there is a lot of farmers here that do that when they store equipment for the year

Was able to check it out the other day and I caught the mouse! I have a tow hook that I modeled off of nufnuf that I would Luke to install. The only things I have been able to do lately is very small things. I am keeping the big money so I can move into a house with a garage. I need to keep my motivation up!

but i got rear brakes off of an old ls1 car so i can compleate my 4th gen rear(96lt1 with ls1brakes)they need to be cleaned up and painted before install.
i think i might undercoat the car, remove gas tank before i install this rear.might even buy some more umi pieces before it goes in. who knows.
i def need to install lcarb
any suggestions?
