Notchback Comments and Opinions!
Hi everyone! I was just thinking about getting a notchback for my 92 bird and wanted to know what everyone thinks of them. I of course like them alot but the only one I can find (http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...backhatch.aspx) doesnt really appeal to me like other ones. COMMENT!

Re: Notchback Comments and Opinions!
I tried to find one when I had my 88 GTA and didn't find one until I bought my camaro. I always liked the look and the rarity of the original GM ones. If you do a search you can find pictures and threads both on here and Google. I think it comes down to what YOU like, everyone's car is there's to do with what they like. The notchback is both loved and hated on this board!

Notchback...the bombee. i love em but cant find one any cheaper than a private owned beater with tranny problems lol $650. but i MOST DEF support notchbacks and think they give third gens a more GRRRR look instead of all that HEAVY A** GLASS. i would JUMP at a notchback deal.
and your right 92Firebug, the hawk notchbacks are a little less than awesome. i give them a C+...B-...

I love the OE notchback version, but they are not that easy to find. the aftermarket ones don't seem to do it for me though; the sides go back too far and don't look as clean

Re: Notchback Comments and Opinions!
I've seen GTA notchbacks when they were new. Were they ever available on an IROC-Z? I remember seeing one in Fort Payne, Al. years ago at a repair shop. It looked to be original, as the car looked completely stock but in rough condition.

I would buy a notch back if there was ever a way to keep the original wrap around wing I never liked the look with the pedestal wing

Re: Notchback Comments and Opinions!
Here are some pictures of my Hawk's notchback. I love it! Specially since the stock rear glas weights 145lbs and the Hawk's only weights around 45lbs. The Hawks comes with a precut 1/8" lexan rear sheet which needs mounting after painting and it needs a little of sanding on the edges for a perfect fit, other than that is just plain perfect. Oh and another thing, you will need to exchange your good working gas struts for one pair of used blown ones. Since the hatch is much more lighter than the stock glass you wont be able to push down the Hawk's hatch with good struts. I am sure you will find someone willing to make the sacrifice!! I also got a fiberglass aero wing and join it to the hatch for a sleek clean look.

I think they're pretty ugly, but with anything, if you've got a vision and you've got the whole car cohesive with it, it will generally look good, but of course there's no accoutning for taste.
So many guys here have car set up to fit their vision for it, and they make decisions I'd NEVER make, but when you see the whole package, it works so well.
