Hood bouncing on freeway!help?
So i have a 3 inch cowl hood that i recently swapped my big block hood for. Problem is that on the freeway the driverside front corner of the hood flaps up and down continously.
I know the hood is made of fiberglass because its incredibly light. I want to avoid using hood pins, and was wondering if there is any alternative?
Im afraid that if i continue like this the hood will just flap open on the freeway.
Any help appreciated.

I'm in the same boat. On the highway my hood flaps like crazy and scares the sh*t out of me. I just pray my latch holds :/

Re: Hood bouncing on freeway!help?
You could try adjusting it. The actual latch has a couple of bolts that can be loosened and there is a small amount of room for up and down adjust ability. If you lower it, it may hold the hood down tighter.

Well im glad im not the only one with a flapping hood.
Id hate to have to get the hood pins but they are looking like the safest solution.
Ill give the adjusting latch thing a try.

Honestly with fiberglass it's dangerous to NOT have hoodpins. They're light and weak, they can and will just break and fold up and fly off the car at high speed.
It will still bounce if you have hood pins though - there's a little trick for that though. Get some water hose (I used heater core hose) and shove it over the top of the hood pin with the hood up, and then you cut it to fit up against the top of the hood that's pinned on.

What ever you do get it fixed soon.I had a steel hood on a old ford pick-up fly open doing 65 on the highway. "Almost" a horrible wreck. After that there was no doubt hood pins were going on the Camaro.

Re: Hood bouncing on freeway!help?
There are aerocatch pins, which basically are the same thing, but lower profile and less eyecatching, but they are rediculously expensive. But I agree that the only solution is to pin the corners down somehow. Or if it REALLY bothers you THAT much, you COULD do a multi hood latch setup, 1 on each side I suppose instead of 3, but that would definitely be some fabricating, but with enough money, time, tools, and know how just about anything is possible, and I guess it might be possible to do it for the price of aerocatch pins..

Some are made poorly or just plain cheap, they are not reinforced well and have no rigidity, they flex way to much. Please for your safety put pins in or take the hood off, the latch will hold but your hood may snap and go thru your windshield. It may fly off and cause a wreck

Try these. They don't stick up and they look great.I bought them and they came with everything you need and detailed directions.I haven't installed mine yet,I don't have the hood I want yet.

Re: Hood bouncing on freeway!help?
What brand of hood are these flapping ones? My harwood bolt on cowl has shown zero sign of moving around, even at 100+. Even the stock composite hood was fine at 100+.

Re: Hood bouncing on freeway!help?
Thanks for the reply guys.
I dont know what type of hood it is, i just met up with a guy and swapped hoods.
It flaps only from the driverside corner. I think i will end up getting pins afterall just hope thats enough to stop the flapping
