Finally painting another IROC!

Sent my 88 off to Mikey's yesterday! She was stolen back in 07, I got her back from storage last winter and she sat in the driveway. Me and the wife finally decided to do something with it. So she's off to the body shop for some work.... I'll try to post pics.

Re: Finally painting another IROC!

Thanks Brother, Mikey does nice work. He called and said he was slow and cut me a hell of a deal so that made it easy. It also will stop people from knocking on my door asking to buy it. I did have it sold for 3k but the wife put a stop to that. So I had to reason with her, Why keep it if we're not gonna drive it? She agreed. I'm going with the stock 88 Dark Red with the IROC decals airbrushed on and cleared over. It should be good. The 89's heads just got back from the machine shop, I'll be putting them on this coming Friday. Summer went so fast!

Re: Finally painting another IROC!

Well it's done, My freind and I drove up to see it on Sunday and it is amazing. The painted on stripes are absoluty perfect. I was kicking around the idea of putting her up for sale as I'm having a ball driving the bright red '89. But after looking at her all painted and done I don't think I can part with her. I will post pictures when I get them downloaded.

Re: Finally painting another IROC!

The hood and front fender are used originals, the nicest I could find. He said he found 1 patch of surface rust under the ground effects on the drivers side. Besides a few door dings she needed very little body work...

One of Mikes friends copied the original stripes perfectly. They look incredible. They are painted onto the base color.

And buffed out, I pulled her out into the sun to try to get better pictures but... Anyhow, you can see we drove down in the 89. Its in the upper right hand corner of the third picture.

Re: Finally painting another IROC!

I was going to sell this car, now we are adding 7 feet onto the driveway so I can park it off the street. Time for tires, alignment, brakes and an exhaust... I will never be a rich man ! From ugly duckling to prom queen. If anyone from PA wants info on Mikey's shop in North Huntington Pa. just shoot me a PM I'll give you contact info for him. You should see this car in person, its incredible.

Dude, we're at a loss for words - it turned out that nice. If mine looks half as good as yours I'll be happy haha.

Is that the original color? It looks good. Just curious but what brand/line of clear did he use?

He was doing it on a budget of money and time as I told him I was just going to sell it. We went all nuts on the 89. It just came out too nice, to sell that is... Thanks for the replies!

It does look great!

Now just a little criticism , he should have straightened out that door molding on the passenger side.

My GTA is the same color, but I'm not happy with my paint job, it's too thin in spots and has waves in it.

The rear tailights are still good, I was going to buy a plastic and glass polishing kit from McGuires or Eastwood. And you are painfully correct, it never ends...
