Door Power Mirror Disassembly
I have a 1988 IROC Camaro with Power Mirrors that is being stripped for a respray.
The mirrors have been removed from the car and I now want to disassemble them to remove the mirror glass and electrics to strip and paint the mirror outer shell.
According to the service manual the way to do this is to break the mirror face and then undo the screw behind it.
Is there another, non-destructive, way to take the door mirror apart?

Re: Door Power Mirror Disassembly
If you very very carefully push on one corner of the mirror face inwards, the opposite corner will come outwards, and you can skinny your way to getting a screwdriver behind the mirror to get the screws undone.
Also, if very very careful, you can actually "pop" the mirror face off the mechanism behind it. The power mirrors use a ball and socket connection, one at the top (I think), and one on a side - the power "screws" a screw devise with a ball on the end, that "snaps" into a socket on the backside of the mirror face. Thta's how the power part works, for up the screw "screws" inwards (shorter - making the top of the mirror go into the housing), for down the screw "screws" outwards, and then the screw on the side does the same for left/right mirror movement.
Make sense? Good Luck!
