Hood Binds

When I lift my hood about 8 inches it binds in the rear. I have to lift one side then the other to get it up. Any thoughts on what's going on??

Re: Hood Binds

I have binding on both of mine. It helped to spray white grease on the hinge joints. I assumed it was a design flaw. I would like to know how to re adjust.

Re: Hood Binds

Have the same. I guess it´s caused by the dimensions of the lifting mechanism in combination with production tolerances.

Some people will suffer from this, others not, adjusting might help and grease definately will.

When lifting the hood the rear edge of the hood moves in a slight arc, first away from the windshield and then up. To achieve this a multi link mechanism was used that creates a virtual pivot point.

To fit this all under the hood, the dimensions were kept to a minimum and materials used are cheap. That causes fricture on the pivots, and if the torque applied to the pivots does not exceed the fricture your hood binds.

Again, manufacturing tolerances cause this to happen on one of two sides, or both, or none.

I will fit a different hood sometime soon and will have a look at what good adjusting will do.

As said, a set of good gas shocks and some grease will help a lot.

Re: Hood Binds

You could try the ones you have. Most likely they´re still working fine.

Re: Hood Binds

if struts are good as you say they are . a good cleaning & re-lube of ALL pivot points on hinges . try carb. cleaner spray with plenty of rags to prevent over spray . then re-lube with white litheum spray grease . good time to do the same with hood latch . you WILL be suprised at how much better they work . good luck .
