Those Damn Doors!

Well im wondering on what I can do or replace to having to slam my doors shut. The door seems to align with everything but I have to slam it shut! I added grease and I still have to push the door hard just to get it properly shut. Help please!

If its t-tops check the weatherstripping isn't in its way, otherwise try lifting a little bit as you pull it shut, probably sagging even if it doesn't appear to be.

Also, try completely removing the latch mechanism, soaking it in WD40 and completely cleaning it- then relube with white lithium grease. My door feels like new and shuts beautifully, although I am STILL chasing those damn rattles!!

Re: Those Damn Doors!

This might sound dumb but what's the striker? And What's The bolt called where the door latches on to? It seems to me that's worn out Instead of being round it's somewhat oval

Re: Those Damn Doors!

That's the striker - on the body side. Has a large allen or torx inset on it - it's adjustable - the hole it's in is larger than the striker itself, thus it can be moved around within the hole.

Is it just as hard to shut with the window down?

x2, if it's easy to shut with the window down, but pretty difficult with the window up, it's the window getting hung up on the T-Top weatherstripping. Mine are quite difficult to shut with the windows up due to failing drip rails.

Re: Those Damn Doors!

Mine won't shut properly either, gotta love those old weatherstrippings, first time or two i drove the car, the door was shut but not latched properly...flew open once or twice...that wakes you up...so then i started locking it, but eventually realized the stupid weatherstripping was making it not shut quite right, and i got smart and just roll the window down a smidge to close the door from the inside and roll it back up, less its nice out of course then it just stays down.
