Body shop or do it myself?

Cutting into metal I've NEVER done. I want to add air vents to my Firebird front fenders using a pair of 82-84 air fender vents I've recovered from an 84 Trans Am. But I have no guidelines or direction on how to do it and I don't want to ruin my fenders because I screwed up. Is there a thread or instruction on how to do it, or should I just take her to a body shop and fork over $500-1000 to get it done?

Hello LateNite89!!

Are you a quick learner??

New skills are always a bonus to pick up, however, to achieve the result that you want may cost more than the $500 - $1000 that the shop will charge you to do it!!

You could always start by practicing on a pair of "donor" fenders, and you will find out very quickly, if you have what it takes to learn to be able to do it!!

It didn't even occur to "practice" on a couple of fenders, maybe scour a couple from the junkyard. I will definitely consider it. I can be a quick learner, especially when it comes to screwing up first. Thanks.

Re: Body shop or do it myself?

The fender vents sit in a recessed area on the fender. It may be a better idea to find a set of fenders in your color and do a swap instead of having to hack up your current ones.

Re: Body shop or do it myself?

I have thought about that as well. In my area in SoCal the junkyards are pretty limited with F-Bodies. They're just becoming more rare to see, now 4th gens are becoming pretty common instead. Fenders I see on ebay are sometimes 200.00 or more for just one from what I've seen.
