Dotta ditch the red stripe over the GFX though...makes it look too busy.

Personally I like it now... If I had to choose I would go with the first two-tone scheme (hood and roof).

Make the GFX black with a black pinstripe as well.
As for the rally stripes on the hood, why not mix in a bit of 1st gen as well and have the stripes end straight, a bit earlier and with the Yenko triangular thingy at the front

To burn out. That orange and black car is in nttga with me. I love his car, but I wouldn't copy it
To solitare: I really like at least some red on the car. It might be on the two tone, the gfx, or both, but i'll have it somewhere
My wife likes# 4, but with a thinner red gfx stripe

Re: vote/comment on my two tone ideas
If you did the GFX black like the top, then the red strip would look good above it. But just having the red stripe on the bottom with body color gfx and the red stripe on the top as the color break takes away from the over all look.

Ill be painting mine here shortly. Im keeping it red so I dont have the paint all the jambs, but Ill be adding some flat or satin black accents here and there (like the gfx for example).

Re: vote/comment on my two tone ideas
you could say that about almost any paint job in this thread.
I am heavily leaning toward something like this, but the stripe around the two tone would be small, only a 1/4 inch
I still am debating on exactly what to do about the hood stripe, I could go with a big blocky stripe, or do a beefy heritage.
Also, I'm working out in my mind what to do around the spoiler, especially the side pieces. Part of me wants to take the two tone around the spoiler, part of me wants to to cut across them. then there's the question about taking the red stripe all the way across the bottom of the spoiler, or jsut terminate it out the back
I've got to decide on hard corners vs rounded, ect.
Whatever I do, I'll have the only car out there like this, which is kind of cool. Some may not like it, but like you said, I'm the one that has to love it and live with it. I don't think it's so wild or gaudy that it would be hated by most. there's always going to be haters no matter what you do, but i think most would like it
The nice thing is, it's a V6 RS, so going custom isn't going to hurt the value. This is not a collectors car

number 4 without the racing stripes down the hood and just continue the little 2inch black with red on the hood all the way across? leaving 99% of the hood grey?

Re: vote/comment on my two tone ideas
one of the main reasons I painted stripes in the first place was because I didn't like the boring, flat, plain hood of the RS, and I wanted to dress it up without going to a clonemobile by adding an IROC hood

I like the paint and style you have now. Your car is really a nice looking car. My vote is keep it like it is! But if I had to choose I would say # 5

Re: vote/comment on my two tone ideas
Thanks. I do like the style it is now, but I'm just looking to explore all options. I may end up doing something similar after all
so far, these are my top two. I like two things about the first one that the second doesn't have. It carries the theme all the way to the front of the car without breaking it, and the settles the debate about what color to paint the side mirrors. If you look at the second picture, you cna see the mirrors look funny. do you paint them grey because they are on the door, or black because they are higher up than the top of the door?
The second one would certainly be simpler, by at least a bit

Re: vote/comment on my two tone ideas
by the way
I really like my louvers (and I'm about to pick up some factory ones) and I'm also wondering of a less traditional paint job would make the louvers seem out of place
hmmm... do not like. I wonder if that's jsut a limitation of my photoshop skill. I'll have to look up place cars with louvers and see what they look like. I've gotten so many compliments on the look of the louvers on a grey car I hate to give them up.

One thing to keep in mind, is it's easy to get carried away with photoshop and a paint gun; what I mean is, while something may sound/look good on paper, it may not look so good in real life when the paint is on the car. Just be cautious, and don't overdo it.

Re: vote/comment on my two tone ideas
Just to show you all I haven't totally abandoned the old look, I just did a mock of of what the stripes would look like if I stopped them short of the edge of the hood
I think everyone will agree this is better
the way it is now

Re: vote/comment on my two tone ideas
wrinkle in the plans tonight, but a good wrinkle
After a LONG search, I finally found a set of GM louvers for sale. I paid a premium for them, but that's the kind I've wanted for a long time. The problem is, I don't think matte black louvers look good on glossy black cars. I might end up painting the louvers with base clear, but factory louvers are getting rare, and I'd hate to destroy the value of them by painting them.
Matte black with shiny grey... good.
Matte black with shiny black... not so good.
So unless I decide once I get them that the louvers HAVE to be painted, I'm going to leave my car grey, and just keep the stripes

Do a mock up, of #1 and #4 combined.
Where the entire bottom of the car is the gray, and the entire top is the black.
Like this: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/sign...-two-tone.html
That's my vote when it comes to two tone.

That last picture you posted is the paint job I have on my 89 with a gold pinstripe separating the colors. I like it! Hey I wanted to ask you a question? Did you add the iroc front grill? Or was that factory? I really like it and would like it on my car. Where would you buy a grill like that? thanks
