What's the worst thing that ever happened to one of your cars thread#2
well for some unforseen unintelligible reason the last 62 post thread was losed, so here's a new one.
3 things happened to my 85
1.) the po removed EVERY vacuum line and A/c compressor and said they were performance mods
2.) the po was drugged up and took us for a test drive, resulting in the rear quarter getting smacked by a dodge neon (thankfully the car was a soft pos)
3.) the guy who painted my 85 was a figgin dick and tried to cut costs and make more money by not putting a flex agent in the paint for my bumpers and saying he did, i did not pay him.

My 88 got stolen right out of my driveway and wrecked. I got another one, an 89 that I'm working on and got the original back, Still wrecked...
Both are 5.7 T top IROCZ's.

Re: What's the worst thing that ever happened to one of your cars thread#2
The worst 2 things that happened to my Camaro were:
1) When I was 16 or 17, an old man in a Suburban rear ended me because I stopped at a red light...
It also buckled both of the quarter panels and bent the unibody frame... the car had to be pulled.. but I couldn't get any good pics of it cus it was hard to tell straight on.
2) Right after I had the car mostly repaired from the Suburban rear-ending me, my ex boyfriend's best friend backed his giant dodge ram truck into my PARKED CAMARO and caused this damage...
yea, I had to buy an RS tail light (because I couldn't find any of the unwanted '84 sport coupe tail lights) and take the stripe off.. but it's all good now...

I wonder why the other thread got closed...Well I think the worst thing that happened to my car was by the previous owner. Im the 2nd owner. The original owner wife backed into it within the first 10 days he had it. Since I have had it. My stereo got stolen and they tried to steal the car. VATS saved it from leaving. Very poor thieves! haha.

92 v6 Bird
1) In high school, I left school in a hurry to get to my barber shop. Once I got to the shop, I noticed someone backed into my rear quarter. HUGE DENT!
2)I let my cousin borrow my bird because she needed a car. Then she calls me and says she was joyriding and stopped at Sonic. Then someone backed in to her.
3) I let her bro use the bird, he left the windows down in a thunderstorm. Flooded the interior and I could not remove the mildew smell.
My poor v6 bird, now I'm trying to find it to buy it back.

Re: What's the worst thing that ever happened to one of your cars thread#2
I rescued my '89 GTA from the wreckers. Mint floors in Ontario are tough to turn down. Turns out I should have left it there. PO appears to have rolled the car into a ditch or a pole, taking out the entire passenger side of the car. It had the hood, fender, door skin and full quarter replaced, and the roof jacked up and filled with bondo. Unfortunately, the bodyshop didn't pull the rest of the car out when they did the repair, so a nice GM quarter is snot-welded (not spot welded) onto a crooked car. Its going back to the wreckers, less its driveline, as soon as I find a donor body. Its been nearly a year. Can't find anything with t-tops and floorpans for under $3k. Currently driving it bent. Its fun, except when it rains outside, it rains inside too.

I was on my way to work I approached a green light, and some bitch in a Hyundai Santa Fe pulled right out in front of me. i slammed on the brakes but couldn't slow down fast enough (I was doing 50), and I slammed in to the back end of the SUV and with my Camaro being lower it just went right under her bumper and did this
Insurance co. totaled it, but i bought it back and fixed it. sort of.

Camaronatedbird,
Check out my thread, Finally painting my IROC. Very slow going, she needed a lot of work. The 88 sits in the driveway. Kids keep stopping and trying to buy it. Still a bummer. Cant bring myself to work on her....

Worst thing that has happened to my car is having it get rearended twice by some kids at my school (one was a stoner, also both accidents happened within a week of each other about a couple weeks after I started driving it. Not much damage though just some tiny hard to notice paint scrapes.) Then I had to park it outside this winter. Mom's new Lincoln and mint 04 Mustang get the garage for some reason.

I heard from this guy at work that if you get in an accident with a truck or SUV that is lifted up higher than your bumper and you go under it then you can pretty much sue them for all they got. Is there any truth in that?

I saved my money for 3 years to buy the car $7,800 in 89' paid $3000 for paint job. I have the remains of the day here left over because some idiot wanted to drink and drive. I waited 21 years later and bought identical car and am working on restoring it now.

my car has been through quite a few hands... one person built the 305, (literally, put more money than i think any one else would) next person cut and or plugged ALL the vacuum lines on the crossfire... then... someone put diesel in it.. luckily.. it was never started.. and i just had to drain the tank after i bought it..

Re: What's the worst thing that ever happened to one of your cars thread#2
Worst thing? I bought a brand new 1983 TA in early September 1982. Watched it back off of the carrier. It had 3 miles on it when I drove it for the first time. It was a silver/black with a black interior, WS6, T-top, manual trans, 305 4 barrel, with every option, even the Bose stereo. 10 days later I was driving to work from Qutiman GA, to Lake Park GA, on the Nankin highway crossing the Brooks/Loundes county lines at the Withacoochie river. It had been raining a lot, and the bridges often went under water. I pulled up and stopped. I was just about to turn around and goe the long way around. There was a deputy directing traffic through the water, and over the bridge. I told him that the water was too deep. He said the water was only 4 inches deep, and it would be fine. Stupidly, I proceded slowly across the bridge. The water in the low spot was between 18 inches and two feet deep. The engine stalled, the water rose suddenly, and the rear of the car floated, pulling the car sideways with the current. The next thing I know the car is floating down river, with water mid way up the windshield. She was sinking very fast. I popped the driver's t-top, jumped out and swam to the edge. When the river receded back into it's banks the car was 100 yards down stream on its top in the mud. There was not much left of it that was any good. By the time the wrecker drug it out, pulled it back upright, and back up on the highway it was pitiful. It had 350 miles on it. My insurance company paid me full price for the car. I went back to the dealer, and of course they could not get me another manual trans WS6 car because there was a shortage of rear disc brake parts, so I settled for a white, WS7, auto, t-top car with all of the options. My insurance company sued the county for their loss, and the county ended up reimbursing the insurance company for the car. The WS7 turned out to be a real lemon. In 1983 the factory installed some four and six cylinder radiators in some of the V-8 cars. Mine was recalled, however the engine burned up and they had to install a shortblock in it at 3100 miles. After all of that it is a wonder that I ever bought another thirdgen, however I have owned two others that have been great cars.

Well actually in my case if the guy that hit me would have done so on a day I was driving my DD instead of my Z28 he probably would have died! My DD at the time was a 83 GMC 3/4ton 4x4 that was raised 6". The only reason i had my Z out was to work on my brakes over lunch in our heated shop at work.
So I waited 12 years and found a twin (almost) to the one I had.

i had an 86 iroc with mint floors (thats hard to find in illinois) I put a "unknown" small block chevy in it from the junkyard, turns out it was a 400 sbc. I was driving on the main 6 lane road in bloomington IL was sitting at a stop light, and a neon pulled up next to me and started reving his car at me. When the light turned green i floored it for a brief second and the drivers side t top popped out of its slot and the trunk popped open and wouldnt close. Ive since learned that sfc's are a must.

Re: What's the worst thing that ever happened to one of your cars thread#2
I'm going to make mine short and sweet here because I know it's elsewhere. To sum it up, the PO of my car is what happened to it, between the blown engine and the non-factory bumper covers and mismatching front fenders (DS GM replacement and PS from an 88 Formula) to the 15mm or so of BONDO on my pass side quarter panel all the way back to the notched out bumper cover and hacked-in trailer harness (he hacked it into the tail light harness and covered the hacking only with electrical tape like every other electrical thing he did) for the hitch that used to be there. On a V6, nonetheless .
Well, pretty much the PO is what happened to each of the 3 cars I've had... Had to fix a lot on my 93 Grand Prix and de-ryce the 93 Daytona ES I had for a while.

Wow you guys.. I burst into tears when that Suburban rear ended my Camaro, so I have no clue what I would do if my whole front end got smashed or if my car floated down a damn river, especially after all the blood, sweat, and tears I have put into her.. yikes

Hot damn! Did you finish the race? That's crazy though, you not only destroy the competition but you destroy your own car in the process. Even that that happened I wouldnt mind having that engine, except it wouldnt go in my Iroc, it would go in an old V6 that I had welded supports to the bottom and had a roll cage to prevent chassis twisting. I would also run t-tops off.
I won the race, but the neon won the war LOL The engine which was bought for $200, was put in a boat then sold

Oh man, too bad you didnt keep it but atleast you dont have to replace your car every time you have a race. That is a great deal though! It's hard enough to find 350's for under $500 that dont need to be put together or rebuilt. Then the 383's are about $1500 so not bad.

A guy I knew had an RS that he beat on all the time. One day he blew the tranny so he drove it home (45 miles) on the highway with only first and a slipping second. Got back into town near rushhour, right about then the engine quit when he was pulling into traffic. Got hit by a dually. I think the car was done

Hmm. I loaded my Formula on the back of a tow behind trailer (one that just has place for 2 wheels) and a friend said it was ready to go. What we didn't know he forgot to pull the pivot **** so the trailer was locked in full spool mode. It came off the trailer going around a corner rolled about 50 feet down the blacktop right into the ditch backwards towards a 5 foot drop off. Only thing that saved it was the driverside window was down so I dove in it at a full run and pulled the Ebrake handle and hit the brake pedal with my hands. It only got 2 small dings on the front frenders from coming out the trailer it never made it to the drop off. It stopped no less than 2 feet from the drop off. I no longer load any vehicles on trailers unless I have my 2 3000 lb straps on it. Surprising my ribs were sore for a week or two from being hit on the door going into the car, but after 4-5 years I'm finally over the fender dings now.

I really didn't think there could be much worse than having two of four thirdgens stolen, but at least I didn't see them go... down a river!
