Rear hatch seal question?

Rear hatch seal question?
Can anyone tell me what to use to seal the glass and rear deck lid together? I can't tell if it's out of a tube or if it is a seal type material? It's black and runs side to side under the deck lid. Any help appreciated.

That's actually a discontinued GM part. It was the same stuff they used to seal around the windshield only in a per-molded peace ready to stick on your deck lid. Don't forget the foam strip too. When i put the deck lid back on mine all be using RTV, Im not a fan windshield adhesive on the deck lid, though it will out last RTV.

Do yourself a favor and use urethane to hold the two together. Otherwise the pressure from the shocks will push the hatch to the rear of the car. The bolts will not stop this alone.

If your struts are that strong your going to need a hell of a lot more then adhesive. Its the washer nuts that hold the glass tight to the deck lid not the adhesive, though it does add a tight bond between the two.

Re: Rear hatch seal question?
When i did mine i used both the factory seal on the front edge and the windshield sealer in the back area just the same way mine was done from the factory.
I know the seal is discontinued but if you can get the part number for it hit these guys up, it's where I got my factory seals from.

Hope this helps.
