You might hate me but...
Alright guys , this is the deal. Just got my car back from the body shop, has fresh paint which needs to be wet sanded and buffed, and then the body parts put on.
This is a Z28 clone project which used to be a 84 sport coupe,
This is my point...I think I am going to leave the middle rocker panels off and just have the front chin spoiler, rear quarters and bumper. My personal opinion is it looks better without the middle rocker panels, it makes the car look thinner in the middle, longer and an overall sleeker look.
Now before yall name all the different horrible things about this listen, since it was a sport coupe, the body doesnt have the mounting holes and slots down low, so to not have them on doesn't look weird because there are visible holes, it looks....natural.
Shout your opinions, because once I tap holes into the body I am not turning back..
Ill get some pics up soon too. I have some of everything put together minus the middle rocker panels, so yall have a better idea of my point of view.

My concern is that it will look unfinished.(half of a clone) Anyone that knows anything about ThirdGen.s will see that right away. But to each their own. I'm also interested in photos.

I kind of agree with the others... However, that said, it is your car! Do it the way that feels right for you. Also want to see pics!

Re: You might hate me but...
My opinion is if you leave the rocker panels off, also build back the sports coupe nosecone and rear, and definately leave the 3 piece ducktail off.
With new paint, 17" rims (no whitewall tyres!) and new exterior glass that would look killer

Yeah, it was just a thought. I don't want to do anything that's going to take away from te car. I was just kinda interested how y'all would react about it. That being said, a couple of my local guys are all for it. They agree that it gives it a longer sleeker look.

Here are some pics guys!
Give me your thoughts,
How does my paint job look? Still has yet to be wet sanded and buffed.

With that color it doesn't stick out to bad. My only suggestion is to lose the rear window louvers. Other than that it looks good.

The color looks nice, as for the rockers, i guess I'm a traditionalist. But what ever greases your monkey, It's up to you.

The point to be concerned with is that it's a well kept/cloned 3rd Gen. Who cares how you restore, it's another life for your 3rd. Oh crap you missed a factory sticker in the right spot under the hood...... SCRAP IT! All kidding aside we need guys like this............ Car could be in a trailer park with dubs

Just not looking forward to having to tap those holes and take apart the interior to bolt them on...

I think that's the right decision. Not that you have to agree with me, but you should anyway. Teehehehe

The car looks really nice. If I were you I would consider using the rockers so you can mark it as a Iroc with all the badging including the door decal. There's something about letting everyone else see that its a Iroc-Z .I think silver/black rocker emblems with a black Iroc door emblem/decal. Thats what I'm running on mine.I see your car is a lot darker than mine so the black wont show as well. Maybe a different color then. I just really like the black.

I think it looks good, like the color too. I wish I had a sport coupe instead of a IROC. When I bought my Roc I couldn't find a V8 Sport coupe. By the way I live in Alabaster.

That's the plan. Thinking silver iroc decals for the door though, I think they would show up better.
No crap really!? I live in chelsea about 15 minutes down the road, drive through there lots have family over there,
We should meet up! Would love to see your car and meet a local third gen, there aren't many of us around these parts.

Re: You might hate me but...
Yea honestly i think it needs the side rocker trim. As for the window louvers..i think with that color they look awesome. I had a 86 iroc that same exact color and loved it. It had window louvers as well that i would have kept except for the fact that they rattled around so bad on the highway (They were broken in a few places). I yanked them off and sold them as restorable for 90 bucks. Even in bad shape factory louvers command some good money.

I think the sport coupe looks cool. I like the roc also. I remember back in the day if you had a IROC you were it. I bought a new mustang in 86 and never wanted a Camaro. I think the Camaro handles better than a Mustang so I switched. My car is down right now for a engine swap and paint ,hope to get it on the road in a few months.

To me, it looks like you high centered the car and knocked the rockers off.
But a car is a mans second girl - it is whatever you like!

Ah man, to bad. Just got my car back, been gone for 2 months. Glad to have it back.
What engine are you switching from and to?
Did you get a chance to visit World of Wheels at the BJCC? I was disappointed no one had a 3rd gen there. Other then that it was really awesome.

These are factory louvers and are in perfect shape, when i bought the car they needed to be repainted so took them off and did that, made them look new again. I am really interested in getting the type that curves around the side of the window, i think those look bad a$$. But they are like $300+ The ones I have now run about $250.
