HELP. front bumper brackets
I am looking for the brackets that hold the bumper to the fender. I have a 85-90 style trans am bumper. The ones that were on the bumper were not right. I think they were from a 82-84. They are not long enough and came through the upper reinforcement bar which I have replaced with a 85-90 bar. I tried the GM dealership, but they did not show up on the diagrams they had.
To short and not right for the studs from the upper support to go through.
Old support with no studs.

Re: HELP. front bumper brackets
I'm going to look through some of my parts catalogs .( Hawks, Ricks Camaro, etc) but to tell you the truth
the only place I have seen parts like that is at a wrecking yard.
OK, I went through the catalogs (even a old Ecklers)and no such luck. They are a pain to pull off but a wrecking yard is your best bet.

Re: HELP. front bumper brackets
i have taken apart both 85-90 and 82-84 front bumpers
I did not notice any difference.
I checked my Mitchell crash manual, which has an excellent parts breakdown of body parts, and they are the same from 82 - 92.
It could be wrong, but not usually.
They stop short and there is a just a bolt going into the clip on the ground effect that bolts to the fender in front of the tire.
They do break, unfortunately.
I spot welded a bolt in place of the old one once, it worked fine.
And yes it was the top one as well.
Is that a factory bumper or an aftermarket one?
When I put an aftermarket one on one of my 3rd gens I had to finese it into the bumper cover.
I used a "Certi Fit" aftermarket cover at that time. We jokingly call the sort a fit.

Re: HELP. front bumper brackets
I have a set for a 89 GTA, floating around here somewhere. Would those work for you?
If so, I'll try to locate them for you tomorrow evening.

Re: HELP. front bumper brackets
Stephen, that would be great if you could find them.
It is a GM bumper. I just don't think it was ever installed properly. There was always an unsightly gap between the fenders and bumper. Now that I have installed the proper top (reinforcement) bracket I was hoping to find the right pieces for the bottom 3 mounting holes.

Re: HELP. front bumper brackets
I got the new parts car (91 TA) & it has no front nose, forward of the fenders. I knew that, but was so full of parts & stuff that I thought MAYBE they were in the car. No luck finding them.
And it dropped into the teens last night in just 1 hr, from in the 60s yesterday, and no luck digging through my parts outside the house.
Should be getting warmer over the next few days & I'll look for them as I can.

Re: HELP. front bumper brackets
I've been able to get outside this weekend & start stripping parts. Those brackets definitely are not in the car anywhere.

Re: HELP. front bumper brackets
Thanks for looking.
I am still looking for the brackets or mounts from an 85-90 trans am bumper. Does anyone on here have an idea as to where I can locate these?

Guys I am still looking. None of my local junkyards have any 85-90 birds. Anyone have a set or know where I can get these.
