Ground clearance for floor jack use

Ground clearance for floor jack use
Looking to buy a heavy duty floor jack to lift my 88 camaro IROC. I am far from home right now so I can't measure my camaro's ground clearance, but I just want to make sure that I won't have any trouble using a floor jack that is 5.5 inches in height at its lowest position. Thanks

Re: Ground clearance for floor jack use
The 5.5" should fit under the front cross member, but it might be a tight fit depending on how much sag your car has. The problem I have is there's no room for the jack handle to swing if I try to lift under the cross member.
I have to lift one side of the car under the A-arm and put a few stacked pieces of 1x pine boards under the tire. Then I move the jack to the cross member.
