Spoiler Taillight
Is it true that every connector has to work in order for the bulbs to light-up? One connector is not there and all the bulbs are broken so i can't test this. I have the convertible spoiler. I would rather not get pulled over, even though i've been driving around for a few months without it working

Re: Spoiler Taillight
I just checked on some new LED spoiler lights, but I read that they over heat and melt the plastic causing it to expand and the taillight gets stuck in the spoiler causing you to have to buy a whole new spoiler. Is this correct? Still don't have a working spoiler taillight

Re: Spoiler Taillight
I've got close to the same light probably. Been wondering what to do with mine as well. Most of them work but you have to take them out sometimes to get connection again. I thought about taking out the backing plate and putting a 194 or two in there but was concerned about the heat from them as well. Let me know what you do with it. They don't really stop you around here for third brake lights being out but I still like for everything to work.

I don't want to buy 4 new bulbs for 30 bucks and then they don't work because one of the connectors isn't there. Idk if anyone has tested the taillight to see if it works with only 4 connectors instead of 5. If i do need all 5 connectors then i'll have to buy a new taillight enclosure.

I believe most of my connector is there, it just doesn't fit tight enough to get good connection. Even when one is out the rest do still work. Mine isn't a convertible but I think they're the same design.

Ok i'll buy one bulb for now and test it. Hopefully it will still look okay when i get more bulbs because of only 4 connectors.

And ... LED's don't generate the heat that a bulb does, so I would think that any LED option would not melt anything. But the Radio Shack bulbs are the way to go if you want to keep stock configuration - affordable!
Oh, I was trying to remember - I think there are 4 contact plates, but only 3 contacts (on the hatch side) - so 'missing' one might be normal! REplace the bulbs first and go from there.

Re: Spoiler Taillight
There are four contact plates by the latch, only two are used for the spoiler mounted brake light. They will correspond with a pair of pins on the underside of the deck lid. Should be the outer two plates, you can verify power with a DMM across the two with the brake applied. IIRC the other two contact plates are for a rear wiper and washer pump, if installed.

Re: Spoiler Taillight
I completely forgot about my spoiler light since i've had all these other issues with my car. I have yet to test with one bulb to see if it works. I'll stop by radio shack tomorrow and see if they have any bulbs in stock.

Re: Spoiler Taillight
Got 4 bulbs at radio shack today. 4 bulbs for 8 bucks . Installed them when I got home but seeing that the far right connector is missing, I only installed 3. The far left i didn't bother putting on cause it would look weird. I'm already looking into a new spoiler light, along with a new 'Tuned Port-Injection' emblem for my bumper. Any tips on where I can get them cheap? I need it in red.

Emblem can be had at Classic Industry. but not cheap at $25. Try salvage yard or E-bay for the 3rd brake light jnternals..
