Just wanted to know if anybody has hood pins on their cars and post a few pics. I'm curious to see what they look like. Also....what's the deal with the wire sticking out on some of them? Thanks

Re: Hood Pins question...

i have a full pin on hood.. the wires sticking out of them are to keep people from stealing the pull pins.. i learned the hard way.. which is y mine is fully pin on now.. i dont have any good pics of mine off hand, but im sure someone will post pics or just do a search for the pics.. but a lil suggestion if u are going to do hood pins do 4 in the front and 2 in the back with our cars they tend to lift in the middle.. also u can get a pretty much flush mount hood pins from pepboys or autozone that lock with a special key which is what i have.. and they are amazing, dont have to worry about people stealing anything.. just REMEMBER to lock them lol

Re: Hood Pins question...

I have full time working pins with no hood latch. I need the wires to keep my pins around and not lost because they are necissary to lock my hood down. I ll post pics tomorrow.

Re: Hood Pins question...

Probably more info than you were looking for but here it is. I chose this style pin to use and then made some changes.. I did not want to put 4 extra holes in the hood just to hold plate that the pin rest on, not to mention the plate with the kit was really made cheap. So I went to the hardware store and bought two stainless steel fender washers the right size and a paper thin rubber fender washers that fit the bottom of the stainless one just right. Lined every thing up ,rubber washer to the hood first held on with clear silicone then the stainless fender washer the same way with silicone on the bottom over the main hole and held each under pressure, not to much pressure because you don't want to press all of the silicone out. Just nice and easy held on with the pin that was already install. That way only a very thin coat of silicone is needed. They are little thicker than the ones that came with the kit. But I think its worth it. They have not moved in the five years they have bin installed.

Re: Hood Pins question...

thanks you guys for the valid info.....but have all you guys removed the hood latches???? or are you keeping them??? Also, if you guys have removed the hood latches, and are just holding by the pins in front and hood supports for the back, have any of you guys encountered alignment problems? Thanks again.

it depends on your hood, most fiberglass bolt on hoods(and i believe all steel hoods) have a place to mount your hood latch striker so your hood latch remains fully functional(but most guys would still recommend using front hood pins on a fiberglass hood as our headlight buckets tend to catch a lot of air, and on a fiberglass hood from a reputable company should have no problems fitting alignment wise, but all fiberglass hood's require some sort of trimming before fitting perfectly

Im running a full pin on hood so my Hinge's will be removed but my latch will remain on the car(even though i wont need it) then i have to run 4 pins, 2 front 2 back, im in for some fun making sure my hood is lined up before cutting and drilling for my pins

Re: Hood Pins question...

Thanks for your information...it's been very helpful. I guess my decision is made. I will keep the hinges in the back, but delete the hood latch and go 4 pins in the front.
Thanks again

Can I ask what hood you are using?

If you are dead set on removing your latch and using 4 front pins I would suggest looking into dzus pins, they are great pins and are flush mount

Re: Hood Pins question...

for now.....and probably for a long while I am using the stock Iroc hood. I've looked into the flush mount hood pins, but the ones I saw on Ebay for 21$ a pair are from Sparko. I haven't ordered them yet.....but I will this week.

Re: Hood Pins question...

If you don't need/want locking hood pins, I'm a big fan of the self contained ones I have. There's no pin to lose or need to have the cable dangling around. They're a big less obvious too without the cables.

I've removed my front latch, with the steel hood, I don't think it's much of an issue. If I ever go with the stock fiberglass hood, I may add one or two in th middle.

Re: Hood Pins question...

If you have hinges in the rear just like stock and you can just open the hood from the front you will not need to put pins in the rear, just the front. The only reason to put pins in the rear is if you have a lift off hood. And you "do" want to keep the hood latch. There is no reason to take it off and you wont need 4 pins in the front if you do.Even the guys that run fiberglass lift off hoods only have 4 pins total ,one on each corner. This is the type that has hinges in the rear and latch and hood pins in the front .I don't really need pins because its a steel hood. I put them on for personal reasons. This is only my "opinion" and its your car so do what ever makes you happy with the end result.

Re: Hood Pins question...

Thanks ROMUSMMA. I am definitely not gonna put any in the back because I will keep the hinges and hardware from my metal hood there. As for the front,I only considered putting 4 hood pins in thefront because QUICKKRIS wrote that apparently our cars lift in the middle if there are only 2 hood pins in the front.

Honestly, my real reason for putting hood pins is because my hood latch is old and not working properly, the wire is stretched and I know that deleting all that crap and going with hood pins will be cheaper, it will make the car weigh less.....and look freakin cool! But as you said ROMUSMMA.......that's just my opinion.

Thanks
