How to remove adhesive residue from a car body?

Okay, I neglected to mention in my last thread about my car, but after recent vandalism, I put it in storage. I duct-taped what was left of my ruined car cover back together and tossed it over my car to limit dust. While spot checking it with some Meguiar's Quik Detailer a few days ago, I noticed that some residue from the tape is now on my car's body (cover has since been replaced). I kinda picked at the residue with my fingernail, but didn't have much luck. It's pretty tough stuff. Are there any easy, finish-safe ways I can get that crud off my car?

You can find them at just about any automotive paint store like carquest. Just be careful as it will go through any thin paint, I know personally :/ And it does make a lot of little rubber particles which get EVERYWHERE.

Goo Off and Oops are both products that work well.

3M general purpose adhesive remover is very safe, and works very well -- great for removing weatherstripping residue.

I tried using the above on decal residue a couple of days ago. To my surprise, it didn't work nearly as well as Goo Off. Go figure.

Try "Sticker Shocker". You can purchase this at any auto parts store. Just spray it on and wait a few minutes and it wipes off easily. This is used for removing bumper stickers etc..

Goo Gone works good too. Be careful with the eraser wheel. Ive seen people burn the paint with them.

Ditto...we had a repaint an entire tonneau cover here at work on a Polo Green 95 Corvette after someone recommended us to use one of those. Burned right through the paint.

Re: How to remove adhesive residue from a car body?

I have one of those stripe erasers. They will make a mess of rubber bumpers and some glass and SMC panels. Also some repaints that aren't cured enough. It's a crap shoot sometimes with them. We usually try the chemicals when in dought about eraser. Different glues, different chemicals work. Gasoline will work on some but no smoking! It's just one of those jobs that's dreaded but necesssary.

Be careful with the eraser wheel. Ive seen people burn the paint with them.
Especially on the edges. Those thing will act like grinders!
