Ground Effects
Gentleman,
I have an 84 plain camaro, recently bought full set (used) of ground effects off 85 z-28. The guy I bought them from had even drilled the spot welds that hold the mounting strip on the rocker panels that the rocker panel ground effects attach to and gave those to me. Only problem is now I don't know exactly where to attach them on my car to get the ground effects in the correct place, anyone ever done this before that could give me some tips?

Re: Ground Effects
First if anybody has better way I will gladly bow out to them. What I would do is to put the rocker effect in place and mark the metal under the door where the holes are. Should just need the first and last. Also determine based on the ground effect piece the proper height. Mark the height from the top on the rocker panel under the door. Pull it back and mark again under that with the thickness of the ground effect. Line up the metal support bracket with these marks on the rocker panel and tack in place. A pain but I do not have any measurements and may have to do this myself. I know that I could get it in the proper place this way. If you need clarifying let me know. It appears the top of the bracket isn't perfectly flat so I would put the high parts of the bracket on that line.

Re: Ground Effects
To be perfectly honest, I did this, I have pictures of my process in doing this...but for the life of me, i can't remember how I did it. I do have to agree with the process above, mark first and last hole, and mount the bracket maybe 1/8 of an inch down being perfectly level, and you should be good. If you really wanted something a little less permenant to double check your process, rivit the bracket after you measure everything out 4-5 times, and then test it out. If it's good, weld the outter two spot welds, drill out the two central rivits, and fill in the rest of the holes/spot welds. This way nothing will accidentally get moved or get screwed up.
Doing this is quite a process, and I had a write up on it at one point, for birds and camaros, but for the life of me can't remember where it went. I wish you luck, and if you need any insights, go to my photobucket in my signature, and go into my "Making a Trans Am" folder under 1988 Trans Am, and you will see everything needed to do your ground effects kit. Good luck, and be careful with those fiberglass side skirts. So happy GM did urethane on the birds.

Re: Ground Effects
Realized it's no longer in my signature, here's the folder of all the pics you'll need to see to get an idea of what you'll be doing.

Re: Ground Effects
84RedTA, I do like the idea of the rivets. It sounds to me like that is the best way or at least much better way than trying to hold and tack. I appreciate the extra input. When I do mine I will keep that in mind.
