Rear shock tore out of it's mount
Like it says, my right rear shock peeled away the lower sheet metal of the shock mount. No rust at all. The welds just gave up. Unfortunately, when I pulled over to investigate the noise I noticed a bolt for the sway bar bracket had come loose and was rattling away. So I decided to keep driving home.
The loose shock kept pounding away at the upper sheet metal until I pulled over again and worked out what was going on.
So now I have a nasty cracked, jagged hole where the shock mount used to be. I'm going to try to patch it from above and below. What gauge metal would be best? I was thinking maybe 18 gauge?
Any input would be welcome.
Thanks,
Jon

There was someone on the forum who welded in a Big Strong washer where his shock tower connected

I've decided to go with a thick washer up top and another plate from underneath. We'll see how it goes.
