t-tops or full targa?

I want to mod the roof (hardtop) of my Z, but I dont know which way to go. I guess a large sun/moonroof could be feasable, any suggestions, do I need sub-frame connectors?

o boy would you ever need Sub frame connectors

search this board, adding t-tops or a sunroof has been beaten to death. Basically you would be better off buying a car that already has them.

I dont know much about changing the top, but i DO know that it will definetly weaken the structure of ur body, if ur car is originally a hardtop, and it will cost alot to compinsate for the structural instabilty (i feel like an architect, eheh )

I want T-tops really bad, but then I found out how much it would cost to have them cut into my roof; suddenly my hardtop is not so bad. :P But I think a targa top with the new notchback hatch from gt auto would look sweet, like a ferrari or something.

I always wanted to cut out T Tops on the 92, but I wouldnt have done it without subframes (which I had) and even maybe switching to a diamond-like subframe connector... would really consider a cage too, especially if I was going to race it and drive it frequently.

Do NOT do a Targa top, unless you install a full cage. I could only imagine how much worse that would be in a t.bone collision or wrapping around a tree.

I've seen 2 targa tops here locally and the both look like *** . However both I think were originally T-top cars. If you want T's I'd just sell your car and get one with them already. Way less hassel.

Someone mentioned to me (cuz i'm in the process of putting in targas) to find a t-top and then find an old set of t-tops and go to a junkyard and cut out the roof of a hardtop and then install the latching system in and then you got yourself a nice top if you go targa top

Theres one thing about converting a hardtop car to a t'top car. You need to cut your roof off and transplant a t'top roof on. The frame of a hardtop car's roof is not the same as a T'top roof frame. They are different in their own ways. Main thing is the Frame and what you have to do to the skin of the roof to get it to work like a t'top car.

If you can then I recomend that you sell your hard top car for a t'top car. With that 3-5 grand that you spend on converting you can buy a pretty good 3rd gen t'top car.

Now if you had a 4th gen then your in heaven because you can convert those to t'top cars since that little idea poped in GMs head and they realized that it would be more economical to make all 4th gen roofs the same. A little cutting and some t'top hardware and your in gear.
