I found this at a Junkyard
So i was at the junk yard today and i found this thing that goes on the hood of a TA.. the hood with the off to the side bump accept toward the back where this revers cal-hood wanna be thing is... there is an assembly that has some kind of solenoid that looks like somthing for the 82 camaros with the 2 flaps that pop up.. anyways.. this one looks like it might do the same thing.. but lets colder air directly in to the top air filter housing. and has a cool screen...
What is this...
what is it called
How does it work.
Reverse Ram air for Firebirds? "with the hood buldge?"

Re: I found this at a Junkyard
IF im not mistaken its what most people refer to as the "power bulge" hood and once again, if i am not mistaken, it was function-able until 85 when the T/A got the vented hood and the Formula took the look of the "power bulge" but it lost in functionality. The "power bulge" acted as a cowl induction type hood. Some one will most likly chime in to correct me if I am wrong.

Re: I found this at a Junkyard
IIRC there are 2 versions of that for the firebirds. My '82 had one for the crossfire 305, and there was a slightly different one for the carbbed engines.
basically when you go WOT the flap opens and lets air directly into the air cleaner housing from the cowl VS having it suck through the snorkle. Pretty neat idea.

Having driven an old T/A with this, I can say it was quite effective at allowing you to hear a little more intake snarl at WOT.
That I don't know. Does the junkyard Firebird happen to have the screen that bolts in at the back of the scoop? 'Cause that might be worth a little something to me. The PO removed the blocking plate at the back of mine, and the screen would be nice to have to keep leaves, small woodland creatures, and other detritus from getting sucked in there.
