Need advise on auto body painting please!!!

I plan on painting my Camaro this summer and need some help with all the different kind of paint and primers and sealers etc... This will be my first time painting a car and i'm confident I can do it. I already started the process of taking the car apart and fixing the little bit of rust on the car.

I know there is single stage urethanes and two stage bc/cc urethanes.
I was going to do a single stage but after reading about it I think bc/cc is the way I may go.
I want to paint the car candy apple red, non metallic

What about the primers like epoxy primer and 2k urethane high build primers.
what do I lay down first. what grit should I sand with after the first, then second coat, then third coat.

My car has the factory paint but it is all chipped and in some parts the paint is cracked.

What about the fiber glass ground effects. The only fiberglass on the car right now is
the nose cone, and the two skinny pieces on the doors. I took all the other fiber glass off the car and plan on painting them separate. Is there anything special I have to do since its fiberglass!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.

Go buy a cheap hood or fender and practice your technique on it before you spray your car.

Re: Need advise on auto body painting please!!!

The only advice I give to people learning how to paint, mind I'm not very experienced, but learned from someone who is, is to practice wet sanding a TON. I cannot emphasize that enough, if you don't have the art of wet sanding done, prior to your clear coat, you'll have imperfections in your paint. Also, good choice on bc/cc, I've always thought that cc'd cars look far better.

Re: Need advise on auto body painting please!!!

No problem man, was helping my dad finish up paint on a Monte Carlo the other day, getting it ready for clear, and it reminded me how important wet sanding is, since you can get slight imperfections out, minor runs, areas where the color may look off to blend properly, etc. I'm getting ready to repaint my 86 this summer, and I can't wait to do another paint job. Good luck man, post pics of the whole process!
