White stuff under carpet
I took my seat out again and peeked through the slit in the carpet and found some white chunks. They almost look like the solid chlorine pieces for the pool. what is it?
i have a picture if needed.

Re: White stuff under carpet
I'd pull the drivers side kick panel and door sill so you can lift the carpet and get a better look. There shouldn't be anything under the carpet except some jute padding, and maybe some tar paper sound deadener. I've had the carpet out of at least 15 thirdgens over the years and I've never seen anything that looked like that. It could be a build sheet, or assembly line garbage, or a shipment of narcotics from Columbia, you won't know until you look.

Re: White stuff under carpet
The wiring to the seat belt goes to the drivers side seat belt retractor... The cut in the passengers side is probably there for the cars with power lumbar. Either way, all that should be under the carpet is fluffy gray jute padding, and steel painted body color. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it were a petrified paper cup, or other garbage from the assembly line.

Re: White stuff under carpet
well it can't be rust repair. it wasn't repaired until i got under there.
I haven't gotten it up yet. that might be the side that has a screw I can't get out because it's rounded. it was too cold to work on it today.

Re: White stuff under carpet
Put just a little toothpaste on the tip of your screwdriver and turn slowly... You might also try using the next size larger screwdriver. A drill driver can work sometimes too. Beyond that, drill in the center with a 1/8" drill, then when the panel is out grab the shank with a vice grip and turn it out.

Re: White stuff under carpet
really? I gave it a shot at least. 1 drill bit twisted in half, and the other must be dull although it doesn't look like it because i am getting nowhere with it.

Re: White stuff under carpet
My guess is it is the white paint from the factory mixed with a bit of corrosion under it making it start to peel/flake off.

Re: White stuff under carpet
yea I just got a couple new bits so I can try drilling soon.
I had pieces of the white stuff in my vacuum, but I vacuumed right over it so they weren't clean to show you. I did noticed it looked like they had little pores in it...little circles.

Re: White stuff under carpet
I've got another problem.
I drilled out the screw so now it separates. But, the screw that holds the sil place and kick panel together just turns. It came up some from the start, but won't come out anymore and it's starting to get rounded. this is weird

Re: White stuff under carpet
Just pull the kick panel up... That screw is a bit of a pain to get back in the hole, so usually it's just threaded into the carpet, or has the jute padding wrapped around it.

Re: White stuff under carpet
This thread has turned from finding out what the mystery substance is into a never-ending quest for sill plate removal. We might never know what it is!

Re: White stuff under carpet
ok then tell me how to remove it now that I've removed all the screws.
if all that's left is the seatbelt holder, the torx bolt won't budge for ****. ill try breaking it free again if that's it.
