making custom floor pans
Hey im in the process of making a custom floor pan. I'm wondering if its 100% necessary to bead roll it.
Here is a picture of what im taking about
or check out way more pics of the floor at my car restoration journal

Read through your cardomain thread, nice work for a first timer, very impressed with your enthusiasm on that project, I am doing a Camaro project and was just searching for some pics of a 3rd gen with the front floor pan removed to see what I had to deal with (mine is just about as bad as yours was on drivers side), your write up and pictorial gave me a good view of the frame rails and trans mounts right in the area I was curious about. thanks for posting those pics.

Re: making custom floor pans
I appreciate your compliment. I've been driving the car for a while now. There is a valve cover gasket and rear engine seal leak so im going to be most likely changing the engine and trans to something a little bigger from the v6 and most likely doing some more bodywork and painting it.

What gauge are you using? The bead rolling provides strength (for thin material) that to a certain amount can be compensated for with thicker steel.
Make sure to attach the floor well to the "frame" and not just around the edge. Drill holes in the sheet metal to weld your own "spot" welds, at least as many as the factory.

I used either 18 or 20 gauge and did weld to the subframe front clip with plug welds
