Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
I am planning on going all black on my 91 z28 with all clear lenses. I was wondering if anyone had these, and what people thought? I personally like the black with clear lenses since the black outs look cheap.

I laugh though because why is there an SS symbol lol.
I was thinking to use Red LEDs for the brakes, and that ultra white for reverse, and orange for the turn signals... Should be unique and pretty cool.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
IDK they look good on the orange maro, but so-so on the red. I think they might look good on a bright color car but hey what do i know. if you do swap them out id like to see what the lights look like at night, i think it would be pretty cool

I think it looks super clean! I have clear side marker lights with leds in them on my white T/A and love the way they look. I am not sure how it would look on a darker car though.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
Remember.....You asked!
I think clear lights look stupid on ANY car. Smoked/blacked out lights look great, regardless of car color. But black cars should (IMO) should have some red left. Black on black just looks like the car is missing or hiding, something. Same with solid black wheels on black cars. Might as well run black steel wheels. Polished lips look better.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
I have to agree with Stephen on this one. IMO, clear tail lights are for sport compacts and should stay on them. My bro has a gunmetal stang and used the spray on lens tinting paint on the tail lights and rear markers and it looks EVIL now!! I say stay away from clear lens and do something else.

I don't usually like clear lens but those don't look too bad. Kinda cool with the black outline around them.
Wonder what they look like lit up at night....

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
I would rather go all blacked out, but the problem is i dont like any of the front head light covers that ive seen. they all just look really tacky, and the black euro projectors ive seen just look cheap too. I want either all blacked out or smoked, or this all clear for it to look good.
Post some pics of smoked tail lights on here if yall would please!

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
I think it all depends on the color of the car.I prefer things to look smooth rather than stick out.If you have a black car then blacked out lights would look great. If your car is silver or white then clear lights would look great.
Ya get what Im sayin?
Looks like your car is red.Stay with the stock lights and maybe add a little tint to them or just add the LED's.
Just my 1 cent.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
The red car's lights looks like ice cubes. lol
I'm not good enough at it or I'd do a photoshop of the red one in black.
Might be interesting with the clear and black depending on how it's done. Also need to see them lit up at night.
Otherwise I like the smoked red ones the best.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
I know here in stupid north carolina the rules and regulation capital of the world( may not be its just what i call it) they passed that law a few years ago that you can no longer have a solid clear brake light with a red or amber bulb you must have a red lens over the bulb because people were putting them on there cars and not changing the brake light bulbs to red or the tint/color would fade off the bulbs and they would not replace them, also you cannot have an led brake light because it is so called too bright and distracting, guys let me ask you a question if said idiot is behind you talking on said cell phone, not paying attention to said camaro in front of him do you want a dim brake light or a BRIGHT brake light? Just fuel for thought.
Oh! BTW, clear taillights look great, Love em we just arent aloud to have them.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
I definitely have to say it depends on the car. I think the clears could look good, but it's almost too much. The smoked ones I thought looked really good myself. It's your car man, if you like it go for it! Just my opinion.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
I saw a thread maybe 2 days ago--member has those style headlights & was asking why they aren't bright.Said the stock ones were alot brighter.
The reply was something like---those are not true projectors.Just bcause they have the clear rounded lens doesn't make them projectors.----Another reply was something like--Black background doesn't reflect light it absorbs light.
If you want projectors, make sure these ARE projectors & not "projector-like".
Post up a photo when you do it.My bride likes the idea of clears she saw on a members silver Camaro.
Good luck.

You know why the Orange Camaro has an SS symbol? Because clear taillights are for R*I*C*E*R*S and thats where they should stay. IMO the CLEAR taillights look like crap. The smoked ones should look ok, and those Red ones are makin me wanna buy some new taillights, lol.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
I doubt they'll be making anymore of them. I have a smoked red set. They told me that the batch mine was from would likely be the last they'd ever make.
They were so much work, so expensive, and I'm not completely happy with them either. Every single lense I had was warped. I probably spent about 3 hours total trying to straighten them all out. Im sure the mold was straight, but as the plastic cures, it bends, and these are LARGE pieces, and several of them. With very distinct straight lines across them. You can tell when they dont line up quite right. I spent all taht time heating them and bending them, and they're still not as good as I'd like.
Their customer service was really good, though. Very nice people, but this project was a bit ambitious I think.
Here's mine, you can see how some of them on the passenger side dont line up perfectly.
This was how the other light looked before I straightened it out:
Notice how the two lenses on the right are raised? This is because they're warped and laying against each other. I had to heat and bend them for a while to get them to play nice next to each other.
If I had spent more time with them, Im sure I could have gotten all of them straight, but it's a pretty tedious job.
I should have gone with a clear reverse lense too since my car is red. I think all smoked would look better on a silver, white, or black car. But on a red car I think it needed a clear reverse.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
i went back and edited my post to explain. It's just a lot of work. If you're patient and pay attention you can get them perfect. I thought I had it closer to perfect than I did.
Also, about the lenses warping... that's a hit or miss thing. If you got a set they may all stay straight as an arrow. It's just one of those it happens sometimes things. But there's 8 separate lenses for these tail lights and each one of them has to line up with the next one. Very slight deviations can be obvious. I didnt notice until I put them all in the housing for a test fitting.
Other than that, I think the quality is great, but the warping is something they dont have much control over and like I said, this was a pretty ambitious project for them. I think it would have worked out a lot better if they were able to make a mold of the entire tail light lense.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
Why? The OP asked for OPINIONS I gave my OPINION. The only thing I ever see clear tail lights on are riced out cars. In my OPINION camaros, firebirds etc do not look good with clear tail lights, the ones that have them make me think of, well, ricers(like a thirdgen SS). Those all red tail lights, though, MAN do they look good.

Re: Clear Tail Lights? Watcha all think?
Look I'm not calling anyone a ***** simply for having clear tail lights. I'm just saying that when I see clear tail lights I think of Hondas, Nissans and Toyotas with "altezzas." If you think clear tail lights look good, then put them on your car, they'll just make mine look better.
And yes, the SS was around before the Z28, but there is no such thing as a 1982-92 Camaro SS. Its like the 96 Z24 down the street that is badged V6.

the smoked out running lights are awesome i have a set on my car, but the blacked out headlights are a huge fail... black reflects nothing, you wont be able to see worth sh*t at night... bad e-bay.... no cookie....
