The SADDEST thing...
I went to the local junkyard to find some interior parts for a camaro and lord oh lord i found a RARE YELLOW IROC! My jaw dropped, for those of you who are into yellow z's you know how rare it is to see one at all. And heres one getting picked!!WTF! I checked the car out top to bottom. I wanted to buy it & fix it way later on but dont have the room Its been picked a few times, but i say the pure fact that is an o.g yellow iroc is worth having for a project car. The rpo stated its an '86 z28 with a b4z (iroc) package with color code 51u (yellow!) with t-tops, power seat, pwr door, pwr locks etc...
Anywho putting this up so maybe someone in the so-cal area might be interested and see if they can save it. Its A heavy project, but i see people here with projects in the same condition or so.
Its in "Pick a Part" in Ontario, ca.
I just hate the fact that later it will get crushed...
My dad had a yellow '87 (pic in my avatar)and ive always had a soft spot for yellow camaros.
Here are the pics-

Re: The SADDEST thing...
I dont know how much you would buy it for, prob. like 200-500 bucks.
The engine and trans are there, but the motor has been picked apart, needs back glass, hood, and interior is there along with the dash, just need to be redone, along with any other misc resto parts it may need, oh and needs wheels
sigh....

I don't know if I'd call yellow a rare color, but it wasn't very common. The word "rare" has been found mostly on TGO. Granted, there were only about 10,500 yellow IROC-Zs built from 85-87, but I don't believe it will be considered rare enough to drive up future value.

let it go, the car seemed like it was all there when it was junked so most likely the engine, tranny are bad and thats why it ended up at the junkers.

i believe they made yellow irocs in '88 also, RPO code 51U. they made 922 of them. here is the site with the info http://www.iroc-z.com/1988pages/1988factsandfigures.htm, or is this a miss print?

85-87 were the only years that iroc's came in yellow. after that they dropped yellow like a bad habbit.

Re: The SADDEST thing...
being in New York, it's hard for me to understand how a solid car like that out in California would be junked. We would kill for solid project rollers like that out here! Most of our junkyard cars here were put there because they are falling apart.

Re: The SADDEST thing...
I've actually thought about that. I think when I get settled somewhere when I get a garage, I'm gonna head out to California or Texas and bring back a rust free roller to the midwest for me to work on.
Everyone out in the rust-free states don't know how good they have it!

Re: The SADDEST thing...
thats what im saying, there is now reason why that car should be in the junk yard in that condition. and you know it was in a hell of alot better shape when it got there then in them pics.

Re: The SADDEST thing...
100%! I bet the problem with that poor car was mechanical and couldve been fixed or replaced. whatever the reason the dumba#@ previous owner junked it was cause he didnt know what he had, or didnt care. You guys should come down here and save some of them! I love it here in cali, but i guess people lost sight of how good we have it ( talkin car wise) and dont appreciate what we have. So they junk'em. I understand what you guys are talking about COMPLETLEY! Some of these cars deserve to be on the road.

These cars are funny like this.. To us, they're more than a car, to others who just wanted transportation are realizing what it takes to keep these things running, and it's easier to junk one, than to change a fuel pump..

I know I just saved one from being scrapped. The truck was just loading it up. 1992 Z28. I bought it off the guy right away. People thought I was crazy. I love these cars and they shouldn't go to waste.

Re: The SADDEST thing...
The bad thing about it is that if it is a Pull-a part or Pick-a part type place and not a JY they will not sell the car as a whole they only sell parts then junk the rest . I know because my local Pull-a part had three Firebirds and I asked what they wanted for the cars and they said the cars are not for sell only the parts for the cars . So you would have to go cut the car in half to get it in two sections and put it back together to get the whole car .

Re: The SADDEST thing...
If i could buy it i would in a heart beat that car is loaded and the yellow is a nice touch. To bad i live in Ontario Canada damn it. all the camaros we get in scrap yards here are totally picked clean before they even arrive and whats left is usually completely useless. it's a shame there's not even a spot of rust.

Agreed, those quarter panels have me drooling!! Attention California, ship that nice rust-free stuff up here!! I'll bet that 1/2 the thirdgens on the road here have more rust than that thing, mine included. Shame.
