Windshield seal - Is it supposed to go all around or just overtop and sides?

Hey guys,
Trying to waterproof my trans AM and I've got a leak thats filling up the front driver(USA passenger) floor when it rains. I read somewhere that there's a seal that rots and can let the water in, but i dont know what its called. I also noticed my windshield rubber seal starts at one side goes around and over the top and down the other side, should this be a complete circyuit or just 3 sides of the windshield?

Thanks mate.
Do you know what the supposed seal is called between the firewall and outside world that would be causing water to pool under the front carpet?

That just seals the engine compartment to keep water off the back of the engine. Are you sure the water is coming in through a seal? Both the heater core and the cowl drain are on that side of the car. Your water could be coming from either of those.

i woul d check and make sure about the heater core or hose to the core. you might have a leak there. how often do you have water there is it all the time or just when it rains you might have to pull the carpet check everywhere before you start buying parts you dont need just to help keep the repair at min. cost

Below the vents at the top of the windshield, there's a well that sometimes becomes clogged with debris, then rots a bit. You might consider checking that area.

The black part that goes around three sides of the glass isn't the seal, it's simply a moulding to cover up the ugly edge. The windshield seal is between the glass and the body, and may be leaking. You can check it by spraying some soapy water on the outside and blowing compressed air all around the edge of the glass on the inside. If you get bubbles on the outside there's a leak. The only sure way to fix it is to remove the glass and reseal it with the proper urethane sealer.

Thanks for that guys.
I'll check out the cowl well and go from there, it only happens when it rains so maybe thats it.
The heater is disconnected, not much use for it here in Oz.
I'm ordering all the targa seals and everything from hawks....along with my ls1 mount kit :P so i'll get it all back to shiny new in the roof section then see how it goes.
