Hood overlapping bumper

I have searched but I did not find a whole lot about this. My hood really overlaps my bumper. I did read there is some adjustment but I have tried some things to no avail. Any suggestions?

Re: Hood overlapping bumper

Can you see the overhang in this old picture of my car?

I can tell you exactly what is going on because I had the exact same problem! Most likely your car was in a slight accident and the nose got pushed back (I know it may not look like it because our front bumpers are plastic but if you look closely is your paint cracked?).
Luckily I had another forum member offer to help me out (he works at a bodyshop and owns a 3rd gen). He worked on my car for an entire Sunday and got my fender gaps corrected and also fixed my hood overhang problem. To fix it he loosened up all the bolts for my bumper and straightened a few brackets. As soon as the bumper was loosened it moved! If you need more info on how this was done contact 1piece@atime. He is an expert bodyman.
Good luck!

Re: Hood overlapping bumper

You may get a little more out of it if you loosen the four bolt on the hood hinges and slide the hood back a little. You may have to do small adjustments, make sure it doesn't bind or touch the windshield when it's up etc.

Hope this helps,

T

Look at all of your brackets in front (under the hood)--are any of them bent or broken? If so, take them off, straighten them (or buy new ones). Have someone apply some downward pressure on the nose while you tighten up the bolts. Little things like that make a big difference in the alignment.

In regards to moving the hood back make sure you look at how the hood is supposed to align with the fenders--there is a line that you want to stick with.

Yup, absolutely make sure the edge for the hood (rear, near windshield) follows the lines of the fenders and it's not above or below the fender line.

Re: Hood overlapping bumper

Yeah it doesn't look like I have any more to give on the hood. I think I am getting it a little closer.

Re: Hood overlapping bumper

Just an update. I checked my brackets and 2 were pretty badly bent. I got one off and almost have the other off. I also moved the hood back slightly. I will try and post more progress and possibly pics if I get time. There are a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people on here. Thanks.

Re: Hood overlapping bumper

Yeah, with these cars its a little deceptive because the nose looks ok but its things like the cracked paint that are a clue. Post up a pic once you get it aligned!

Re: Hood overlapping bumper

I will do that IF I get it alligned. I am sure I can figure it out though. I will try and do a before and after pic so people can see just how bad it is now vs what it will look like when done.
